Lucan Sarsfields Club Notes Monday Feb 22nd 2016

February 21, 2016

Pounds lost. That may have been the individual ambition for participants in Operation Transformation. However, the Flannery brothers achieved the loss of pounds in a more dramatic fashion on Friday night last with the beards (and more) disappearing and Crumlin Hospital being the beneficiary. Operation Transformation participants brought their programme to an end on Thursday, celebrating friendships formed, the loss of kg’s, shared pain in the rain, topped off with a quick bite to eat!

Senior Football & Hurling both had home wins on Sunday in the mist of what felt like an (unnamed) storm. The footballers were first out at 10:30am against Templeogue in the St VDeP Cup.  3:11 to 1:04 was the final score with my fingers too numb to send out updates in between! Next weekend Senior Football start their Div 1 campaign away to Cuala.

The hurlers had their game switched from Crumlin to Lucan well in advance, but on the morning it was changed to Adamstown, before being changed back to the senior pitch with less than an hour to go. No intent to cause confusion there, just a genuine effort to manage pitches, given the weather, and given that we have allot of games this coming weekend. The hurling game itself was a Boland Cup game, Lucan had a one point deficit at the half but turned it around to finish winners 2:11 to 1:10.

Dublin participation for club players is very significant. Emma Flanagan, Ali Twomey, and Orla Beagan lined out for Dublin Senior Camogie, Jonny McCaffrey and Chris Crummy for Dublin Senior Hurlers, Michael Robinson and Ciaran Smith for Dublin Minor Footballers, Abby Shiels, Caitlin Maguire and Aoife Coffee for Dublin U14 Ladies Football.

St Josephs Camogie All Ireland Final is scheduled for 5th March against Scoil na Trionoide (Doon, Co. Limerick), with the venue yet to be advised.

Amongst the juveniles, CCC2 was still football this weekend with wins for 14B and 16A’s. The 15A footballers great run came to a halt - long season ahead. Next weekend things get allot busier with Ladies Football and CCC2 Hurling games at all levels.

Saturday 12th of March, Rory’s Stories - Live Show. Tickets available at the bar, but are limited. Also, St Patricks Day is not far away and (as you may have seen from the posters) a big day is in store at the club.

One new initiative - Soup, toasted sandwiches, tea/coffee etc now available at he club bar at weekends. This is beginning to prove quiet popular.

Michael O’Gradaig and Seán O’Lanagáin will continue their Cúpla Focal Club on Monday night. Eight O’Clock do na daoine ag tosnú, and nine O’Clock dos na saineolaí.

Bingo time on Wednesday night 24/2 at 8:30pm. With a jackpot approaching €500 there should be lots of interest. Set dancing continues in the function room on Wednesday at 8:30pm, and the 25-Card Drive continues on Friday Night at 9pm, new participants are always welcome.

There was no winner of this week’s €1,000 Lotto draw, numbers were 4, 11, 19 and 25. Lotto sponsor was O’Grady Hearing Care Services. Next week’s jackpot is €1,500, and the draw will be managed by team Gerry McAndrew on Sunday night.
