Match Report Sunday 14th June 2015

On a perfect afternoon for camogie Lucan U-11’s took on St. Olaf’s in two matches at 12th Lock.

Robbie & Kevin Team

In typical fashion the Lucan girls started strongly and dominated the early stages with Cliodhna Ni Bhuachalla, Hannah Nolan and Saidhb Fitzpatrick to the fore. This early pressure was rewarded with two goals and one point, with the forwards of Sinead Daly, Reah Canning and Isobel Dunne a constant threat to the St Olaf’s defence. At half time Lucan held a 2-1 to 0-0 lead.

The second half saw a strong response from the St. Olaf girls but was met with a typical defensive effort from Lucan. Sophie McIntyre, Aoibheann Scott and Kate Gaffney led from the front and kept Lucan in front entering the final quarter, despite St. Olaf’s scoring two goals to narrow the gap to one point. However Lucan finished the stronger, with Aideen Sommers, Rachel Fox and Anna Rose Kenny especially prominent, and two late goals for the girls in green ensured a well-deserved win by 4-1 to 2-0.

Gary’s & Ollie Team

Olafs started strong with a goal within minutes of the start through some great skill and air hurling, it had the desired impact on the Sarsfields team, the lion awoke. Sarsfields roared back with a goal and a point to send the teams in at half time Lucan 1-1 to 1-0 Olafs. Huge effort from our midfield of Ave O’Reagan, Lily Rooney, Cara Ware, and the ever improving skills of Alanna Fox. Our defence was led by Katie Jenkinson, Tara Hollowed and Ellen Lynch and Olafs challenged  but the amazing defence held. The hooking drills paid off in this match, second half saw another goal for Sarsfields with relentless pressure from our forward line of Saidbh Corcoran, Ella Lacey, Sarah Mahon, Rebecca and Rachel. The half was closed out with a couple of additional points for Sarsfields, three call outs were the free taking of Lily Rooney and Tara Hollowed, but most of all the long puc out from goal by Erica Collins which put so much pressure on the Olaf defence that we had a hard fought resounding game against excellent competition.
