U12 Hurling Division 2
Lucan Sarsfields 5-13 v Balinteer St Johns 5-5
A first home game of the league campaign for our A hurlers saw them host Ballinteer in a sunny Arthur Griffith Park on Saturday last.
This game followed a similar pattern to the previous two outings , a close fought first half , followed by a second half where Lucan took control of the game to run out comfortable winners in the end.
With Captain James Finn choosing to play against the wind in the first half , Ballinteer settled to the task better than the hosts taking an early lead . Most of Ballinteers attacks sprung from the fact that their puckouts were landing close to the Lucan goal. The Sarsfields backs of Aidan Sheary , Diarmuid Keher, James Finn , Michael Young and Cillian Morrissey coped admirably under this pressure. As the half progressed , Lucan started to gain some superiority in the backs. Through some good distribution from Goalkeeper Neil O'Leary to hard working midfield of Matthew Coogan and Brendan Kavanagh, a number of great attacks and scores were setup, including scores from the Lucan forwards Adam Whyte , Sean Harkness, Louis Butler. The hard work of Adam Gilmore at Centre forward led to Ballinteer conceding frees that were punished with unerring accuracy by free taker Hugh Cuffe.
The halftime scoreline of Lucan 3-6 to BSJ 4-2 reflected the pressure the Lucan defence was under from BSJ puckout and some near misses from Lucan.
The second half saw some positional changes , with Louis Butler swapping with Neil O'Leary in goal , Adam Gilmore moving to wing back , with Cathal Britton coming into half forward. Some early exchange of wides , was rounded off with a speculative shot from the ever improving Britton leading to a goal that put Lucan in a controlling position that they didn't relinquish for the rest of the game. This was reflected by the fact that Lucan held BSJ to 1-3 in the second half , while scoring 2-7 themselves. The 2-7 was characterized by excellent scores from Sean Harkness , Adam Whyte , Neil O'Leary and the unerring Hugh Cuffe. The supply to the forwards from our midfield pairing of Coogan and Kavanagh provided the base for this dominance. The backs of Aidan Sheary , Diarmuid Keher, James Finn , Michael Young, Cillian Morrissey and Adam Gilmore dominated the aerial tussle with BSJ and provided the springboard to some excellent attacks.
Lucan ran out 8pt winners on a score line of 5-13 to 5-5. The result means three out of three in the league and puts the team in pole position prior to the summer break . The next league game is away on 12th of September v Kilmacud Crokes.
