U-13 Hurling League Division 1 Round 5 Thursday April 30th 2015

Lucan Sarsfields A: 7-13                                             Fingallians A: 2-02

A fantastic display from this young team on an excellent night for hurling which brought Lucan their fourth victory in the league campaign. From the offset, through sheer intensity and sharp hurling, Lucan gained an early lead which they never relinquished. Oisin Ryan scored an excellent individual goal after two minutes which was followed soon after by a second well taken goal by Evin Dowling. Jake Rooney and Colm Walsh, the forever reliable midfield duo, compounded the oppositions challenge from their dominance and outstanding work rate around the centre of the park. Lucan followed up their early goals with points from Evin Dowling, Oisin Ryan, Charlie Keher and Jake Rooney. Sean Casey, in a new role at centre forward, complimented the midfields efforts to provide a new dynamic to Lucan’s forward line and his link up play and determination was brilliant to watch. Lucan conceded two goals towards the end of the first half from long range frees but rallied just before half-time to get another goal from Sean Casey. Sean collected position at centre forward and following an incisive run at the Fingallians defence rifled his shot to the far top corner of the net.

The message from coaches at half time was clear, continue the running game from the midfield and centre forwards and increase the accuracy and delivery of ball into the inside line. This was executed brilliantly and credit must be given to the half back line of Sean Balfe, Cian Duffy and Fintan Ward for their clever use of the ball and dominance under opposition puck outs. The full back line came under more pressure in the second half as the opposition re-structured their formation to make space for their inside forwards. Finnan Breen, Declan Lawlor and Daire Murphy adapted well to the challenge and nullified any attacking threats which ensued. Jake Mooney in goals responded superbly when called upon to make two excellent saves. The interplay of the Lucan forward line began to click and this yielded four more goals and five additional points including two unstoppable goal strikes from Colm Walsh and Evin Dowling and superb points, all from play, through Oisin Twamley, Sean Casey, Ryan O’Connor and Eoin Power. A great performance from the boys all round.
