U16B Hurling Lucan vs Castleknock

April 20, 2015

With Lucan having the hill and wind with them in the first half the advantage was with them, however it took them awhile to start getting scores, with a lot of wasted opportunities going astray. First score came from a point by Cillian Murray, who seemed to be everywhere for most of the match, putting in a fierce amount of work. Michael Doyle was also on fine form and hit 2 over the bar. Castleknock where making forays up in the Lucan half and were causing difficulty for the Lucan backs. Zack Meade, William Wong and Thomas Heffernan made if difficult for them, but they managed to get a goal and a point keeping them in touch with Lucan. Thomas Dempsey pulled off some brilliant vital saves. Cillian Murray scored the goal of the season so far netting in the top corner from near 35 yards out and was followed soon after by a cracking point from Shaun Keegan. Half time the game was still anyones at  2 3 to 1 2 for Lucan.

The task now was to hold of Castleknock and contend with the hill and wind. Lucan never broke stride and played probably their best hurling in a long time this half. David Grudzinkas, Eddie Connolly and Alex Bourke where all putting pressure on the Castleknock backline. Castleknock got a couple of early points on the board further increasing the pressure on Lucan. The movement of the Lucan ball was vital to keeping them at bay. Long accurate balls where being sent up to the half forwards and Joseph Lakes who was making plenty of runs slotting over another point in the process. Castleknock managed to score another goal and the hunt was on from them, pressure building on Lucan. Alex popped in a cheeky hockey style goal easing the pressure for the time being. Not to be outdone the opposition kept working for more scores with a few of wides. James Hoey, Paul Murtagh and Aidan Flynn kept them quiet and managed to send enough ball up to the forwards, David Grudzinkas managed  to hit home a goal from scramble in the Castleknock goal. Shaun Keegan finished of the game with another great point. Game over but a great second half from both sides.
