U15B Camogie Match Report 08/03/2015
Lucan Sarsfields (5-5) V Commercials (0-1)
With weather conditions making for a more pleasant outing than the previous week, the Lucan girls were looking forward to this encounter with their near neighbours.
Exchanges in the first ten minutes saw half-backs Danielle OâConnor and her namesake Chloe in the thick of the action. Not to be outdone, Hannah Brady and Laura Boland competed well in mid-field to keep opposition players on the back-foot. With plenty of ball played into Rachael Feighery, Ciara Crosbie and Carla Delmar at half-forward, all were unlucky not to register on the scoreboard early on.
Time and again both OâConnors came to the fore in cutting out the supply of ball to the opposition forwards. However, the girls from Commercials were not giving anything away lightly, with many robust challenges going in.
Eventually Lucan got the breakthrough with a goal from Delmar who picked up a pass from Boland and finished to the back of the net. Commercials responded with a pointed free â still the resistance was there. The few attacks into the Lucan back-line were mopped up by Isobel Fox, Heather Kenny and Caoimhe Morris â all looked comfortable in defence. Faye OâReilly in goal looked assured with any ball that came her way â getting better all the time (no doubt as a result of the extra training sessions with her dad).
Lucan forwards Ciara Carberry, Emma Morris and Leah McGrath all came close with the opposition goalkeeper making a few fine stops and clearing the ball off her line. Chloe OâConnor began to assert her authority driving forward to score a long range pointed free. Delmar pointed to leave the half-time score at Lucan 1-2 to Commercials 0-1.
Playing with a stiff breeze in the second half, Lucan upped their game. Lucy Varney and Caoimhe Morris coming into the game with every tackle as time went on. Both OâConnors pressed hard and worked some great interplay to win a free which Chloe floated straight to the opposition net. Boland and Bradyâs marshalling of midfield started to tell on their opponents, Boland pointing from long range. Olive Ennis now introduced into the forward line was causing problems for the opposition backline. Willow Byrne for Fox at RFB making some timely interceptions. Brady retired following a tough challenge with Chloe OâConnor now moving to midfield. Score of the game resulted from OâReillyâs puck-out to Danielle OâConnor on to Boland passed to Delmar and into the back of the opposition net. Sustained pressure with Lucan now encamped in the opposition area â a goal resulted following a number of attempts by the FF line. Final score Lucan 5-5 Commercials 0-1
All in all, a good result against a gallant opposition.
