Lucan Sarsfields player of the year awards 2024

Minor C Football

The Minor C football player of the year was a real leader on the pitch and never stopped running and working hard for the team irrespective of how the game was going or the likely result. He was involved in the team talks both before and at half time in every game and was a significant motivator of his teammates. He also led the warmup both at training and before matches allowing the mentors to concentrate on setting up drills and other tasks. The minor C football player of the year for 2024 is Michael Casey

Minor B Football

This player has always had a great attitude in training and matches, always working hard and striving to improve. He has a great skill set and has improved as the year went on. He has shown great character when matches have been going against us and has a never say die attitude that he displays in every game. The Minor B Football player of the year is Cian O'Gara

Minor A Football

This player was a consistently good performer for the Minor A Footballers, top scoring over the course of the 2024 season. His attitude and commitment to the cause were every bit as impressive as the polished skills he possesses. Admired by coaches and teammates alike, he's a very worthy winner of this year's award. The minor A footballer of the year is Patrick O’Connor

Minor C Hurling

For the Minor C hurling team, there were a number of stand out players throughout the year. When put to a vote, it was almost unanimous amongst both the players, and the coaches as to who would win this award.

Brave, quick and composed – he was able to take full command of games whenever he was asked. A great teammate, and a player that inspired all of the lads around him. 

A quiet lad that lets his hurling do the talking, but it spoke volumes and raised the level of everyone on the team.

 From hugely important blocks being made in high-pressure moments in championship, to winding solo runs from the midfield to put the ball in the back of the net. He could be trusted to do anything he was asked and would do it better than you could’ve imagined possible.

A man marker who can nullify even the strongest of opponents, and a player that continues to push himself to be better every single week and does so without fail.

The 2024 Minor C Hurling Player of the Year is Adam McMahon

Minor B Hurling

This player’s commitment and energy to both training and competitions in a challenging year, along with his skills and encouragement of the rest of the team make him our player of the year, James Scott.

Minor A Hurling

This is a joint celebration of two players. Their development, performance, confidence and belief in themselves and the team shone this year. Their belief in the team, their focus on training and the energy they brings to matches is obvious for all to see. The minor A hurling player of the year award goes to Patrick Cosgrove and Senan Bolger.

Minor C Ladies Football

While there were many players in contention for this award, we must give it to our tight marking corner back who was a consistent performer and was an example to all around her. The minor C ladies footballer of the year is Yazmin Wynne

Minor B Ladies Football

In 2024 we entered 3 Minor ladies football teams. Our Minor B girls played in Division 8 for league and Division 9 for Championship. The girls played a total of 14 games across all competitions and always worked hard and played with pride. After a very strong championship campaign they lost out in the Final to St. Sylvester’s after an extremely well fought and close match.

There were several players considered for our Minor B player of the year award and we eventually settled on a winner. The player we selected showed great commitment and determination to succeed. She had a great work ethic in both training and at all matches and continuously worked hard from start to finish with a never say die attitude. She demonstrated great leadership on and off the pitch and encouraged all players to give their best. She was ever present for all our games and rarely missed a training session and she always has a smile on her face. She was our midfield dynamo who had endless energy covering the length of the pitch from start to finish.

The player we have chosen as Minor B Ladies Football Player of the year is Aoibhinn Gallagher Congratulations Aoibhinn from John & Aidan and all your teammates.

Minor A Ladies Football

The Minor A ladies football team had a strong year on the pitch with a solid league campaign and finished as runners up in the Division 2 Championship Final.

The player of the year played a huge part in the run to that final, with strong and tenacious displays in each of the matches.

From the half back position, she was given the job of man - or rather woman marking our most difficult opponents, which she did, pressuring, harassing and bullying the opposition, without getting booked once.

She showed a great attitude at every training session and every match and was a pleasure to coach.

We told her at the start of the year that if she was going to wear white boots, she better be good, and she was - she was outstanding.

Our minor A Ladies Footballer of the year is Eve Bruton.

Minor B Camogie

This player led our back line throughout the season showing great commitment to her team. Always at hand to encourage those around her leading by example in training and in games. The Minor B Camogie player of the year is Grace Kenny.

Minor A Camogie

This player was captain and led by example. Assured in goals, pulled off some great saves at important stages and won the game at the death against Ballyboden. The minor a camogie player of the year is Mia Farrell.

U-21 A Football

Throughout the year this player honed his craft as a footballer. He was dedicated to his training and there was a marked improvement in every aspect of his game. As a result of his dedication, he played a significant role this season with the Senior football team. He is admired and respected by his peers. He leads by example and his ceiling is very high. The future of football in Lucan Sarsfields is bright if he continues his development. The Under 21 footballer of the year for 2024 is Matt Coogan.

U-21 B Football

U21 teams usually have a very short shelf life. U21B teams can be even shorter. This was a single day out. We may not have won the day, but one young man certainly did his level best to get a second bite of the cherry. A super performance on a tough day. The u21 footballer of the year is Dillon Ryan

U-21 A Hurling

This player’s consistency in midfield was pivotal to the championship success. With some stand out performances, he was a driving force in both training and in games.

His skill level is backed up by his hard work, determination and overall commitment to the team.  Liam Garrigan is the 2024 U21 hurler of the year.

U-21 B Hurling

This player is very unassuming in his role that holds together the centre of the pitch for his team. He quietly and efficiently gets through the work out in front of him and can be depended upon to put in a performance ever time he takes the field. The u21 B hurler of the year is Cillian Morrissey.

U-21 B Camogie

This player was a key member of the U21 B squad for 2024. She displayed energy and skill and always gave 100% whether asked to play in defence or attack where she excelled in both areas of the pitch.  She has displayed great determination always with a brilliant attitude and was an easy choice for player of the year. She has great potential to go further in the future! The u-21 B player of the year is Zara Lancaster Casey.

U-21 A Camogie

This year’s u21a panel was a team full of commitment and dedication, where team work shone through every time the group pulled on their boots and picked up their hurls.  Every one of the girls deserves a mention on a night like this but there can be only one winner on the night. And for her 110% effort in training and on match day, for her never give up attitude, for always putting her body on the line no matter what. And for keeping an all-star nominee quiet on the pitch. Our very own all-star this year is Lily Rooney.

Junior D Football

This player was an integral part of the team's success of finishing 3rd in the league and being narrowly beaten in our championship quarter final against the eventual winners of the competition.

Jack an ever present at training and matches led by example and always gave 100 percent for the full 60 minutes of the game. He kicked some vital scores and was always willing to work back to help with defensive duties. A thoroughly deserving recipient of our team’s player of the year. We have selected Jack Butler as the player of the year for the 2024 season

Junior C Football

The fact that this is this players 2nd time to get Player of the Year only goes to show his continuous determination and commitment to both his team and his club. He sets a minimum high bar for both himself and his team mates to aspire to. His dedication to training and improvement sets a powerful example for his teammates, encouraging them to push their limits and strive for excellence.  When times are tough, he always finds that piece of magic and natural flare that reignites the team.

As he continues to grow and develop, there is no doubt that this player will remain a key figure in the future of adult football within Lucan Sarsfields GAA Club. The junior C player of the year is Mark Gormley.

Junior B Football

Several players were in contention for this award but this player in his first year in Adult Football gets the award for his consistency of performance throughout the year in both League and Championship. He brought huge work rate and commitment to every game and played a big role in the team getting to the championship semi final, we are sure he can build on his performances in 2024 and have a great 2025. The junior B footballer of the year is Lee Murphy

Junior A Football

2024 was a difficult year for the Junior A football team as the the majority of the playing squad and the full management team from the previous season moving up to Intermediate team. With the squad  going through such a major transition it put massive pressure on the remaining players to keep the show on the road. One player in particular redoubled his efforts at a time when other players choose to opt out. He helped the new players to find their feet while putting in consistent highly committed performances. The 2024 Jun A Player of the year is Luca Kavanagh.

Junior C Hurling

This player showed great leadership throughout the league and Championship campaign through his performances on field and his dedication to training, He has been outstanding in leading the team as captain for most of the year and is a great example of for the newer players to our panel. The Junior C Hurler of the year is Conor Hannon 

Junior B Hurling

The 2024 Junior B hurler of the year will be of no surprise to his teammates or regular attendees at Junior B matches in 2024. This player is one of the most consistent trainers is lightning fast and reads the game brilliantly.  Small in stature but a super hurler, the absolute nemesis of the more rotund corner forwards encountered at junior B.   The junior B hurler of the year is Dillon Ryan!

Junior A Hurling

3goals 158points for the season.  Need we say more. This year’s junior A player of the year is Ciaran Keane.

Junior C Ladies Football

The Junior C Ladies Footballer of the year was hard to choose as there were a number of players to pick from. This player has been a great addition to our squad since joining us. She has always given everything both in training & matches and this award is well deserved. But our player of the year is Alison Barrett

Junior B Ladies Football

To recognise the outstanding and unwavering dedication to her team over not just last year but the preceding years both at matches and training, the management team has chosen this player as the player of the year for junior b Ladies Football.  She is one of the founding members of this junior b team. She is a key player in defence, remaining calm under pressure and working consistently with her teammates. Always reliable, her positive attitude and skill on the pitch and her love of the game are deserving of this accolade. The junior B ladies footballer of the year is Katie Leahy

Junior A Ladies Football

Any number of players from the 52 who played junior A Ladies football would make a worthy recipient of the award but one name rose to the top of list for her leadership both off and especially on the pitch. For one so young this player showed a a maturity behind her young years always positive and  encouraging to others. The junior A Ladies footballer of the year is Cara Ware.

Junior C Camogie

This player was a huge part of the Junior Camogie team for 2024. She displayed great amounts of energy and skill all through both campaigns and always gave 100%. She was excellent in tight games throughout the year and was a key factor in us winning the Championship in 2024. We are delighted to have Róisín Hayden as our player of the year.

Junior B Camogie

This player was a recent addition to Lucan Camogie, having begun her career in Cork, and she was great addition, settling in straight away with her teammates. She is a great team player, her versatility on the pitch and her willingness to play in any position was a real asset. She never missed training or and matches, and her work rate and attitude are an example to all. Our Junior B Camogie player of the year is Megan Ring.

Junior A Camogie

The Junior A Player of the year has, over 2023, demonstrated her commitment to the team with 100% effort on the pitch and at training, continuing to develop her Camogie skills including adding long range frees taking to her skillset, the Junior A Camogie Player of the Year is Kellie O'Brien

Intermediate Football

Only very rarely does a management team assemble to select outstanding player, and there’s literally NO discussion.

An injury plagued 2023 season saw a move to the 3 jersey for 2024. He was immense in every game. Full forwards landed in his doorstep in all shapes and sizes, but they all ended up as minced meat. The intermediate footballer of the year is Eoin Farrelly.

Intermediate Hurling

This year has been a remarkable one for the Lucan Intermediates. From winning the league to delivering competitive performances in the championship, the team has shown incredible resilience, dedication, and teamwork. These achievements have provided a strong foundation for the future as we look forward to continuing to build success in Division 3 and beyond.

The success of this team is a testament to the effort and commitment of every player on the panel. Throughout the year, every single member of the team has contributed, whether on the field or in training, to creating an environment of hard work, trust, and unity.

When it came to selecting the Intermediate Player of the Year, the decision was not an easy one. This was a season where three or four players were genuine contenders for the honour, each of them having made standout contributions to the team’s journey. However, this year, we wanted to recognize the player who delivered the most consistent performances throughout the season—someone who exemplified what it means to be a team player.

This individual’s diligence, tireless work ethic, and ability to support all phases of play from midfield made them an indispensable part of the team. Week after week, they showed leadership, focus, and a commitment to excellence that inspired those around them.

Intermediate Camogie

From the get-go this player showed fierce commitment to her team, throughout the year she continued to flourish and maintain a high work rate, throwing herself fully into every match, and demonstrating tremendous skill. Her pace and agility made her a handful for any opposing teams. Our Intermediate camogie player of the year is Hannah Gibbs. 

Intermediate Ladies Football

This player is our league and cup goalkeeper and everyone knows this can be a thankless position however this player shows up every training session and match with a smile on her face. Her dedication is second to none and her work rate is fantastic. She is continually trying to better herself and improve and this was very evident is some of her performances throughout the 2024 season where she was certainly the reason we won matches. Overall a great player with a great attitude who is very deserving of this award.

The intermediate ladies football player of the year is Emma McGivney.

Senior Camogie

From the start of the year, it was clear that this player was on a mission, her commitment and dedication to the team was outstanding. Her determination at training and in matches was unfaltering, always going that extra yard for the team. The Senior Camogie player of the year is Ellen Dunphy.

Senior Football

As you are aware the Senior Football Squad has gone through a significant transition over the past 12 months, with a lot of younger and less experienced players coming into the squad. Without hesitation this player was selected to Captain the squad and the way he has managed that role, while still week on week performing to an extremely high level on the field, is a real testament to him both as an accomplished player and as a person. Throughout the year he displayed numerous excellent attributes, which included, humility, integrity and a real will to win, all of which were to the fore throughout the season. He set standards for the squad, and he is a leader of men. He is a role model to his teammates and is held in high regard by everyone involved in the wider group. We as a management are delighted to select him as the Senior Footballer of the year for 2024. The senior footballer of the year is Alan Murphy.

Senior Hurling

This player had a super season in 23 and was unfortunate to miss the Semi through injury , but came back fit and well in 2024, highlights were scoring 19 points v Kilmacud Crokes and taking on Free taking responsibilities. His Consistency throughout the year to a testament to his work and dedication. The senior hurler of the year is Ben Coffey.

Adult Management team of the year

After a number of years chasing championships, this management team  Alan, Pat, Simon and Caitriona led their players to championship glory in October of 2024. As everyone knows championship wins are borne from a shared common goal amongst managers and players and in terms of this management team they demonstrated a strong commitment throughout the years to their players by seeking to transition players coming in from the  juvenile section, managing players coming back from retirement and maintaining satisfaction amongst the core players at their level. The management team have built a positive environment within the team which seeks to encourage players at every opportunity and maximise player potential. Their dedication and commitment to training the girls twice a week, organising gym sessions etc is much appreciated by the players and the cumulation  of their efforts led to them winning the championship.

The adult Management team of the year goes to Junior C Camogie. Patrick Lambe, Alan Cherubini, Simon Morris and Catriona Montgomery

Hall of fame award

Our recipient tonight has been an integral part of our club for close to 40 years. His coaching journey began with a juvenile boys team in the early 80’s and continued into adult football.

He was part of the management team that won a Junior A Championship in 2003. He also served with the senior football management for many years alongside both Mick Kilduff and Mick Bohan.

In addition to his work with the senior team, he was a mentor with the Under 21 Football team that made club history by winning the first-ever A Championship final.  The celebrations took the team on an overseas trip where our recipient took on the unenviable task of chaperoning the trip, ensuring all players and mentors returned home safely - no small feat, as those who were there will surely attest!

His talents extended beyond the club, as he was involved with the Dublin Junior Football team in 2007/2008 under Mick Deegans leadership, winning both Leinster and All-Ireland Junior Football Championships .

For nearly two decades, he has served as Lucan Sarsfields Dublin County Board Football Delegate, representing our club with distinction. His contributions have earned him immense respect from both the Dublin County Board and fellow delegates.

Though he has stepped back from the day-to-day demands of team management, he now takes great pride in supporting the next generation of Lucan Sarsfields players including his three granddaughters Grace, Zoe, and Lauren. His legacy in the club is being carried forward.

This year’s recipient of the Hall of Fame award is Noel Buggie.

Club person of the year award

This person has been involved with the club for almost 20 years, and that involvement began like most members when his son began playing both football and hurling. His commitment to the club continued as mentor with many juvenile hurling teams and subsequently with the Junior B team. As mentor with that team he led the team to numerous championship wins and elevation to Junior A championship.

 As well as being a very active mentor with the Junior A hurlers, he is a critical part of Lucan Sarsfields maintenance group as well as a man who has clocked many miles and hours on the mowers cutting Pitches 1 and 2. 

For those who do not know, he is constantly ensuring that if he cannot cut pitches, somebody else is tasked to ensure that pitches are in pristine condition for weekend games.  I am sure that anybody reading this has often remarked on the excellent condition of the pitches.

The recent forest initiative behind the goals on Pitch 1 forms part of a greater biodiversity plan that he instigated and has already started. 

He is always available to help and often quietly helps out in the bar and cafe.

So on or off the pitch, he is an excellent example of what a club person should be.  A mentor, a volunteer and a go-to person with a 'we will get it sorted' attitude.

The Lucan Sarsfields club person of the year is Christy Boylan
