Ladies Football 
 

Well done to our Intermediate Ladies footballers on a great win over St Brigid’s on a score line of 4:02 – 1:10. This win leaves them joint top of their group and secures them a spot in the semi-final with one more group game to go. 
 
Camogie 
Hard luck to the senior camogie team on their narrow defeat to St Jude's in the opening game of championship over the weekend. Best of luck to the girls this Sunday in round 2 against St Oliver Plunkett's.  

Hurling 

All five of our adult teams were in action this weekend in the penultimate round of the Championship groups.  The seniors secured a dramatic draw with Kilmacud Crokes, the Intermediates lost to Commercials, while there were good away wins for our Junior As, Junior Bs and Junior Cs (See match reports below).  The Seniors, Junior A’s and Junior Bs have all secured a place in the quarter finals, while the Intermediates and Junior Cs remain very much in contention with a game to play.  Best of luck to our Minor hurling teams who commence their championships next weekend. 

Senior Hurling Championship:   Kilmacud Crokes 0-19 Lucan Sarsfields 1-16. 

Parnell Park, 31/8/2024. 

Lucan seniors needed a point from this match to secure a safe passage to the quarterfinals.  It didn't look likely when they were 5 points down with the clock ticking towards injury time, but a dramatic finish secured the draw and progression to the next stage. Played in glorious sunshine, it was Crokes that enjoyed a deserved 0-10 to 0-7 interval lead, with Oisin O’Rorke accruing half of that tally from placed balls.  Kilmacud continued to play the more compelling hurling upon the restart but with Brian Sheehy dismissed late on, Lucan took full advantage through a fortuitous Ciaran Dowling goal and Charlie Keher’s dramatic late, levelling point.  

There was little to separate the sides in a bright and entertaining opening quarter, one that saw Kilmacud seize the early initiative following scores by Oisin O’Rorke and Bill O’Carroll.  Ben Coffey converted a sublime sideline ball by way of riposte for Lucan but Dara Purcell restored Crokes’ two-point advantage with a tidy score by the 3rd minute.  It wasn’t long before Sarsfields were back on level terms though thanks to points from play by their corner-forwards Dowling and Keher, reflecting the confidence in their play.  O’Rorke added a brace of frees to edge his team a point clear but on each occasion, Lucan replied in kind through Colm Walsh and Jack Behan.  Sarsfields managed to take the lead for the first time as Coffey added a 14th minute free but another placed ball by O’Rorke saw the sides deadlocked at 0-6 apiece by the end of the opening quarter.  Conal Ó Riain regained the lead with a fine score in the 20th minute and his side finished the half in a relatively dominant manner as a brace of O’Rorke frees and a Michael Roche point pushed them three points clear by the interval.  Ó Riain stretched the Crokes lead to five points with a brace of excellent points in the opening four minutes of the second half as Lucan struggled to make any concerted impression up front. A sublime Paul Crummey point in the 37th minute aside, there was little for Sarsfields to enthuse over as they fell further behind following scores by Brian Hayes and Fergal Whitely. However, a trio of Coffey frees ensured that Lucan remained within striking distance, even more so as their opponents were culpable of poor shot selection at times. They did manage to add to their tally through O’Carroll, O’Rorke and the influential Ó Riain but Coffey’s fifth free of the half, following the dismissal of Brian Sheehy in the 56th minute, saw Crokes holding onto a precarious three-point lead. There looked like there would be no grandstand finale however as Kilmacud dealt with their numerical disadvantage in a controlled and measured manner, adding to their lead through Brian Hayes and Alex Considine. There was a sting in the tail though as Coffey’s free was followed up by a goal from Dowling, whose lengthy delivery deceived Eddie Gibbons in the Crokes goal before rolling almost apologetically into the corner of the net. Lucan looked determined to gain a share of the spoils and Keher duly delivered with the final puck of the game, leaving the teams with contrasting emotions by the final whistle.

Junior A Hurling Championship:   St Judes 1-11 Lucan Sarsfields 2-24.

Lucan Junior As secured a place in the Championship quarterfinals with this comprehensive win at St Jude's. Lucan started brightly and led 0-5 to 0-2 after 10 minutes with good early scores from Ciaran Keane (including a sublime sideline ball) Cathal O'Maolmhana and Paddy Brennan.  However, Jude's then had a brief purple patch and turned things around to lead 1-7 to 0-5 by the 18th minute.  Lucan gradually regained control and a well finished Paddy Brennan goal had them back on terms and a second goal from Gareth Kennedy and further points from Keane, Brennan and Cathal Geraghty had them comfortably ahead at half-time, 2-11 to 1-9.   

Lucan were even more dominant in the second half with Aidan Roche picking off 3 points when introduced, Mick May landed two from distance and Ciaran Keane continued to tap them over from all angles.  At the other end the Lucan backs were very dominant and Jude's added just two scores in the half as Lucan finished comprehensive winners.

Junior H Hurling Championship:  Na Gaeil Óga 1-10  Lucan Sarsfields 2-16. 

Catherines Park, 1/9/2024. 

Lucan Junior C's remain very much in contention to progress to the quarter-finals after this impressive win over Na Gaeil Óga.  The exchanges were tight and evenly contested for most of the first half and the sides were level at half time, Na Gaeil Óga 1-5  Lucan 0-8.  Ryan Brant accounted for most of Lucan's scores in that half with Deane Boylan and Cian Cregg also chipping in.  Lucan got on top in the second half and a goal from a well taken penalty from Ryan Brant put them firmly in control.  The Lucan backs were well on top at this stage and hurling very well and the forwards continued to pick off some nice points to build a commanding lead.   A second goal, nicely finished by Conor Sheary, settled the issue.  Overall, it was a very good display from this young Lucan team and they can certainly build on this and progress further in the championship.

Social  

The Cúpla Focal club is back next Monday the 9th of September. These classes are free of charge and will run ever Monday from 8-9pm. (Voluntary donations to Nagarhope welcome). Planning Permission 

Planning permission for a new ball wall and the extension of our juvenile pitch into a full-size all-weather pitch has been submitted to South Dublin County Council. 
 
Planning permission has been posted at the entrance, exit and turn into the clubhouse. 
 
Lots of hard work and fundraising over the years has gotten us to this stage in our development plans. A special word of appreciation to Colm Farrell who has worked tirelessly to get these plans submitted.
