Lucan Sarsfield’s Club Notes

All Ireland Camogie Semi Final

Best of luck to Amy Gorman, Laura Sharkey, Aoife Mckearney, Emma Flanagan and Mia Farrell in their All Ireland semi-final against Cork on the 27th of July. This match is in UPMC Nowlan Park and throwing in at 13:15. We are encouraging all our members to make the short trip to Kilkenny and support the girls in blue. This is a massive achievement for the team who before this year had only reached the semi-final twice since 1990. A particulary proud day for our club to have 5 players flying the Lucan flag on the team.

Tickets for the match can be purchased via universe.com

We are running a bus from the club for this match. Contact 0857468846 to book your spot, spaces are limited.

Intermediate Hurling Championship

12th Lock, July 13, 18:15

Lucan Sarsfields 1-15 Good Counsel 0-18

The Go-Ahead Intermediate Hurling Championship clash between Lucan Sarsfields and Good Counsel at 12th Lock was a thrilling encounter that saw both teams put in strong performances, with Good Counsel finishing the game the stronger for a deserved draw.

In the first half Lucan Sarsfields opened the scoring with Joey Dunne pointing from play. Despite an early wide from Donal Flannery, Lucan maintained the early pressure, with Darragh Meehan converting a free from the halfway line. Good Counsel responded with a point from play, followed by Colm Keenan and Joey Dunne adding to Lucan’s tally. Lucan struggled to find their range and shot selection needs improvement, a couple of wides before a point from Donal Flannery got us back on track.

Barry O’Reilly and Adam Quinn kept Good Counsel in the game with points from play, with Luke Blood adding a free. Joey showcased brilliant stick work to secure another point for Lucan, while Darragh continued his scoring run. As the half concluded, Donal final point of the half-left Lucan with a narrow lead.

**Half-Time Score** Lucan Sarsfields 0-11 | Good Counsel 0-8

Lucan Sarsfields started the second half strongly with Anthony McNulty scoring a fine point from play. Good Counsel's Luke Blood missed a few crucial frees, which Lucan capitalized on when Darragh Meehan netted a goal, extending our lead. Counsels Luke Blood began to find his range again, adding a few frees and a point from play.

The game finished tense with both sides missing opportunities, including a wide from Darragh and a booking for Donal. Luke Blood continued to be pivotal for Good Counsel, adding several points from frees. Darragh responded with his own impressive free takingbut ultimately, Good Counsel's consistent scoring saw them edge back into the game to a share of the spoils.

Lucan Sarsfields will be looking to refine their play and improve accuracy with better shot selectionmaintaining our shape will also help us keep the ascendancy in our next encounter providing relief for our defence which was outstanding today.

Lucan Jun "F" hurling Championship

Erin Go Breagh 1-12, Lucan 4-26

Lucan Junior B hurlers got their championship campaign off to a winning start with an emphatic win over Erin Go Breagh in St Catherines Park on Friday evening. Despite missing a few players due to holidays and injuries, they made light work of their opposition with a few players putting their hands up for selection as the championship progresses'. After a caggie opening 10 m minutes when scores were level, the Lucan lads finally found their range and took control on the scoreboard.  Kevin Gormley was first on the scoreboard with a fine effort off his left-hand side out near the sideline, Adam Duffy who was unerring from placed balls all evening, Eoin Power and Liam Farrell from wing back were prominent. The experienced James Mullins along with Conor Mulqueen, Liam Farrell and Joey McSweeney kept a tight rein on their direct opponents. Lucan took control of the match heading towards the break with all the forwards getting on the scoreboard. Jake Mooney, Niall Higgins and Aidan Glover all sent over minor scores. At the break Lucan enjoyed a seven-point advantage.

After the break, Lucan picked up from where they left off. They moved up a couple of gears and eventually the flood gates opened. Having pulled comfortably clear after points from Adam, Kevin, Dan Barry Murphy and Cian Ryan the impressive Eoin Power rattled the net, Jack Mooney added two more and then towering full forward Eoin Kilduff rounded off an impressive substitution. While the forwards were on there were many strong performances amongst the back restricting the home side to scores from frees. Long puckouts and clearances from Freddy Heran were also a feature of the game.

So, a good win to get our championship up and running, next up is Craobh Chiaran at home next Friday where we will be hoping to maintain our winning form.
