Hurling

Four wins from five games played was the return for our adult hurlers this weekend. There were good wins for seniors (v Craobh), Intermediates (v Cuala), Junior As (v Sylvester’s) and Junior B’s (v Thomas Davis). Our Junior C South team lost away to Ranelagh Gaels while the Junior C North team received a walk over.

AHL1:  Craobh Chiarán 0-17 Lucan Sarsfields 1-20.
Clonshaugh, 20th April.

Lucan seniors maintained their unbeaten start to the season with this win over Craobh. The hosts never make it easy, and Lucan had to battle hard to withstand a spirited Craobh comeback to prevail comfortably enough in the end.

The first half was evenly contested with an early Ciaran Dowling goal giving Lucan the advantage, but Craobh gradually got a foothold scoring a succession of long range frees and had levelled by halftime, 0-10 to 1-7. Lucan got on top early in the second half and built up a six-point lead helped by the unerring accuracy of Sean Harkness from frees. However, Craobh showed great resolve to fight back and narrow the gap to just a single point inside the last 10 minutes. Lucan stepped it up again and scored five on the trot and won by six in the end.

Seán Langton, Matt McCaffrey and the outstanding Luke Walsh were very good in the Lucan defence. Kevin Fitzgerald relished the midfield battle while Ciaran Dowling and Charlie Keher were always a threat in the forward line.

Lucan team/scorers;
C Murray, M McCaffrey (0-1), P Rigney, S Langton, R Ward, C Stritch, L Walsh, K Fitzgerald, D Lyons, M Coogan (0-1), S Harkness (0-10f), C McHugh (0-1), C Keher (0-3, 0-1s), C Mulqueen, C Dowling (1-3). Subs introduced; H Cuffe (0-1), E Dowling.

AHL4: Lucan Sarsfields 0-15. Cuala 1-11.
12th Lock, 6:15pm 20th April

On a radiant day at the 12th Lock, the contenders converged in a pivotal match to vie for an early lead in AHL4 standings. Lucan, confronted with the challenge of starting against the easterly wind, braced themselves for an arduous contest right from the onset.

In the first half, tensions were high as both teams fought tooth and nail for every point. Lucan managed to secure a free early on, but their keeper remained resolute to protect his goal and Cuala relentlessly defended with Keggo's attempt to point going wide, at the other end Cuala capitalized on their early opportunities to score points.

Ruairi Gleason was instrumental for Lucan, scoring crucial points throughout the game, Lucan's defence held strong against Cuala's advances with notable performances from Eoin, Mike and Alex. Lucan led 7-6 at half time thanks to a last-minute point from Joey.

The second half saw Lucan continue the fight with renewed determination. Rory Stapleton's point early on boosted our morale, but Cuala remained a formidable opponent, answering back with points of their own.

It was a tense moment when Cuala had a chance at goal, but Lucan's defence held strong, batting the ball wide for a 65. However, Cuala soon broke through with a stunning goal with a run from midfield, sending shockwaves through the crowd.
But Lucan refused to give up. With Bren's assist, Ruairi Gleeson scored two crucial points from play, narrowing the gap. In the final minutes, Lucan's resilience paid off as they secured a hard-fought victory with a final score of 0-15 to Cuala's 1-11.

The battle of AHL4 had been fiercely contested, but in the end, it was Lucan who emerged victorious, their spirit and skill shining bright on that sunny day at the 12th Lock.

AHL9: Lucan 4-17, Thomas Davis 1-5

Lucan Jun B hurlers secured their fourth victory of the league with an impressive victory over Thomas Davis at the 12th Lock on Friday evening. They were in charge of this match from the throw in, a fine catch and strike by Niall Higgins got things rolling and it was quickly followed by scores from Ross Campion, Adam Duffy, Adam Whyte and Conor Sheery. A fine run and strike from Ross resulted in Lucan's second goal. Some resolute defending was required to keep a lively Davis forward line danger at bay. Eoin Kilduff swapped the big ball for the small one and he gave a commanding display at full back where he was ably assisted by Pierce Farrell and Dylan Ryan who continues to impress. Lucan held a six-point lead at the break. The second half continued in the same vein and in fact the visitors were held scoreless for more than 25 minutes. Kein Quinn was in great form at centre back where Joey Mac and Cillian Morrisey also impressed. Liam Farrell and Darragh Quinn put in a big evening's work at midfield. Goals from Adam Duffy (2) and points from several players rounded off the scoring.

Second half subs Dan Barry Murphy (nephew of the famous JBM), Neil O'Leary, Tiernan Swords, Finan Breen and Alan Flanagan all contributed handsomely to the big win.

Juvenile

There was lots of juvenile action over the weekend. It was great to see the sun shining as opposed to our recent rainy matches. Our U8 and U10 girls loved the change in weather as seen in the pictures below.

Our U15 ladies' footballers had a big weekend as they competed in Féile 2024.We had three teams competing in three divisions across Dublin.

The U15A team played their division 2 group games on Saturday in Castleknock GAA Club. They had great run in the group games and win in their semi-final sent them into the final on Sunday. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be for our girls who after a tough battle lost to St Sylvesters. Final score Lucan 1:01 – 0:07 St Sylvesters. Hard luck to the team and management. Pictured below.

The U15B team played their division 8 group games in Beann Eadair, Howth. Overlooking the sea, this was arguably the most scenic venue for Féile in Dublin. All the teams in this group were evenly matched and there was only one kick in the game to separate them in each match - unfortunately Lucan came out just short in two of their games.T he girls showed great spirit as usual and have built up great friendships on the team and were as usual very supportive of each other. In all despite the results it was a great experience for the girls, and they had a good day out.

The U15C team played their division 11 Féile at home as we hosted these group games. The girls had a successful run in the group stages but in the end were edged out by Fingallians in the semi-final. The girls left everything on the pitch. Hard luck to the team and management.

Well done to our U15B hurlers who had a hard-fought win away to St Kevin Killian's in the Division 5 Féile semi-final. Final score Lucan 4:09 – 2:09 St Kevin Killian's. Best of luck to the lads in their preparations for the final.

Our U13 girls had a great weekend styling their new team jerseys. A huge thank you to John Smith of The Cartridge Expert on Main Street Lucan who sponsoring. Hopefully plenty of successful years ahead in these jerseys! See picture below.

County

Congratulations to Réka Kiss Kalo and Cara Coffey who helped the Dublin U16 Ladies Footballers secure the Leinster title on Sunday. A hugely proud day for the girls, their families and the club as Réka captained the side and Cara was named player of the match. Well done girls!!

Well done to Mia Farrell and the Dublin Minor Camogie team who won their All-Ireland Shield semi-final over the weekend. Mia played a stormer in the nets and earned herself player of the match. They now progress onto the final this Saturday 27th April. The game will be played in UPMC Nowlan Park @2:30. It would be great to get some club support out for the team.

Thank You for supporting Lucan Sarsfields GAA Club.
