Club News
A Great weekend for the Dubs with our ladies advancing to the football final to play Kerry following a tremendous performance by Sars own Abby Sheils in goal, we all look forward to the final.

Sunday then produced a cracker, for those lucky enough to be in Croker we saw Daire Newcombe lift Sam for his first time, surrounded by his proud family. Darie had a tremendous season at intercounty and his team look forward to his return to assist with their championship endeavours which commence on the 12th August against Thomas Davis in O’Toole Park (3:30 throw-in).
Hurling
The second round of the adult hurling championships took place this week and Lucan continued their good run with three wins from three. The seniors followed up their opening round success over Crokes with a hard fought win over St Brigids - see match report below. The Intermediates opened their campaign with a good win away to neighbours Round Tower’s (2-18 to 1-16), while the Junior B's had a high scoring way to Oliver Plunketts (4-21 to 3-16). The Junior A's and Junior C's both had bye's in this round. All our teams now enjoy a short break before championships resume in mid August.
SHC Lucan Sarsfields 1-24 St Brigids 1-22. O'Toole Park, 25/7/2023.
Lucan seniors recorded a second win in the championship when digging deep to hold off a spirited St Brigid’s by 1-24 to 1-22 at O’Toole Park on Tuesday evening. Having defeated holders Kilmacud Crokes in their opening fixture, Lucan entered the contest with great confidence and that was enhanced as Paul Crummey netted as early as the 3rd minute. A brace of excellent stops from Alan Nolan and seven points from Paul Winters saw St Brigid’s stay in the hunt but two late points by Ben Coffey pushed Sarsfields 1-15 to 0-11 clear by the interval. The Blanchardstown side resumed in a determined fashion to trim their arrears to three points by the 42nd minute thanks to two points apiece from Cian O’Sullivan, Johnny McGuirk and Mark Kavanagh while Lucan responded through vital points by Seán Harkness, Coffey and Charlie Keher. An O’Sullivan goal in the 51st minute left the bare minimum between the sides but Ciaran Dowling and Luke Walsh countered for Lucan. A dramatic finish saw Brigids win a 21 yard free and Paul Winters stood over it but the Lucan keeper Cillian Murray was up to the task and blocked it before the final whistle blew and Lucan prevailed by two points.
Lucan Team/Scorers: C Murray, C Walsh (0-2), J Bellew, R Smith. M McCaffrey, J McCaffrey, J Behan, R Ward (0-2), S Harkness (0-4f), K Fitzgerald (0-2), C O'Leary, P Crummey (1-2), C Keher (0-3), B Coffey (0-4), E Dowling. Subs introduced: L Garrigan (0-1), L Walsh (0-2), C Dowling (0-2, 0-1f).
Junior G Championship – St Finians Swords v Lucan Sarsfields
Lucan got their championship off to a winning start Monday 17th July away to St Finians Swords in River Valley. From the start, Lucan brought an intensity to the game that Finians struggled to deal with. An early Adam Duffy goal, lobbing the keeper from out near the sideline, settled the team and after Eoin Power doubled the goal tally with a wonderful individual effort the result never looked to be going anywhere but to the home team. Some tigerish defending by the corner backs Joey McSweeny and Donncha Hassey kept the Finians forwards frustrated, and Lucan went into the break well in control. The second half lacked the intensity of the first half but a barnstorming display in midfield from Jack McCarthy and while Finán Breen kept the scoreboard ticking over, Lucan emerged winners on a scoreline of 2-13 to 0-09.
Team/Scorers Justin Meyler, Joey McSweeny, Alan Flanagan, Donncha Hassey, James O’Connor(0-01), Paddy Kennedy, Tiarnan Swords, Jack McCarthy(0-02), Liam Farrell, Cian Ryan, Finan Breen(0-05), Daragh Quinn, Eoin Power(1-02), Adam Duffy(1-1), Ray Hearne(0-02) Subs Introduced: Pearse Farrell, Daire Murphy, Rob Maloney, Charlie Caserly, Ross Campion

25/07/23. Challenge, 8pm Celbridge, Lucan 2-14 v 3-11 Celbridge
Really good exercise, challenge should do what it says on the tin. Ahead of championship there are no nailed down starters. Well maybe there are, but who knows what might happen between now and then? A couple of weeks to get your name on a jersey. No match report, but for what it’s worth you can have my post match comments, after my solicitor has pared them back and taken out the ruder bits.
In no particular order….. Eoin Guckian was off the pace. But for a first run out, that’s hardly surprising. Too loose tracking back. Noel was quiet in opening half, very involved in 2nd. Brossie won his ball. Mostly. But he’ll have been disappointed with distribution. Declan did well, very well, especially at the end, he was the one that stayed home to mind the house! Tim obviously did SFA on his hols cause batteries well recharged. Cormac was as rusty as one would expect after lengthy absence. Reportedly available on a free transfer? Jordan scored 1-8, but against better defence he can bring his team mates into play. Need to work on kick outs with Shane. Slow means opposition push up further and further. Went into forwards in 2nd half and did very well. Not sure I remember Shane playing that end of the field. Dean had a quiet 2nd half in goal, made one super save. 6 defenders Cian, Colm, Declan, Michael, Eoin & Conor did really well. Took time to gel, but in 3rd quarter had Celbridge locked down. Then lost the run of themselves when we got on top, and reverted to kamikaze stuff. On mature reflection that seems harsh, but when we were 4 points clear with maybe 4 mins left, Declan was only one inside our 65!! Only one in a green shirt. However, there were some top drawer turnovers. Repeatedly all 6 won ball and carried at pace. Don’t think we are getting the scores that these turnovers deserve. being ruthless is a process. Callum had super game. Covered almost as much ground as Tim, maybe more. A Louis sidestep is a true joy to behold. His final pass was fractionally off. Not on list of scorers, but the assists!! Celbridge were poor. We should’ve beaten them out the gate. We need to be a lot more ruthless.
Team: Shane Kerins, Cian Gaire, Colm Kelly, Declan Lawlor, Michael Young, Eoin Farrelly, Conor Sheary, Tim Bradley (0-2),Callum Buchanan(0-2), Eoin Guckian (1-0), Noel Flynn (0-1) Louis Butler, Cormac Bradley, Jordan Delmar (1-8), David Brosnan (0-1). Sub Dean Davis
