Football
We are delighted to see Daire Newcombe get his first league appearance for the boys in blue, scoring a point in the win over Limerick.
Bank holiday Monday saw a visit from Dublin LGFA goalkeeping coach Aidan Mulligan. 32 Ladies Football Goalkeeper’s and mentors attended this thoroughly enjoyable and excellent goalkeeping workshop.
Lucan U16 footballers travelled down to St. Marys College in Galway to play the 2022 Galway U15 football champions Oranmore in a pre-season challenge on Sunday, Feb 05th. It was a very enjoyable experience for the players and the game was played in the spectacular backdrop of the famous college in Galway city. The game was very competitive and played in a great spirit. We would like to thank Oranmore/Maree for organising the facilities and especially to former Galway footballer Sean Og de Paor for his words to the players afterwards. An enjoyable day out all round.
The U-12 Boys started out the 2023 season with a trip to Limerick. We left Lucan Sarsfields Club in high spirits early on Sunday morning. We planned to play Na Piarsaigh in a hurling challenge match and to take in the Limerick vs Dublin Football match in the Allianz League. Enroute to Limerick we stopped at the Barack Obama Plaza to refuel. We were only delighted to find the Dublin Team had also taken a pitstop at the same location.
Our players got to meet members of the Dublin Panel and a shout out to Dean Rock for taking the time to take a photo with our players. From there it was on to Na Piarsaigh were we played 2 very competitive games of hurling. The weather was fantastic and the pitch in the Na Piarsaigh grounds was like a carpet. We would like to thank all at Na Piarsaigh for the warm welcome we received. Michael Downes and his coaches gave us a very warm and were gracious hosts who are passionate about hurling. The future is bright for Limerick Hurling!
After the matches we travelled into the Gaelic Grounds to see the Limerick vs Dublin Game. It is fair to say the boys thoroughly enjoyed themselves with lots of singing and banter. It was great to see one of our clubmen, Daire Newcombe take the field for the Sky Blues and play so well. We would like to thank Peter Nash, Senior Limerick Footballer, for taking the time to speak with our players and to offer them some very sound advice – practice playing on both sides. We reboarded our bus and headed back up the N7, not before stopping at Supermacs for some much needed refuelling. It was then back on the bus and homeward bound, the journey was made feel all the shorter thanks to the melodious singing of the boys!
Hurling
We are delighted to welcome Charlie Carter as our new Senior Hurling Manager. Charlie had a glittering playing career winning three All-Ireland titles with Kilkenny and two County Championships with his club, Young Irelands. He also won three All-Stars. He has extensive experience as a coach and manager, winning two Wexford championships with St Martins, having previously been involved with St Martins Kilkenny and Young Irelands Camogie. Charlie’s full management and backroom team will be finalised soon. All in Lucan Sarsfields welcome Charlie to the club and wish him and the team the very best for the season ahead.
Social News & Events
Mama Mia's
The Mamma Mias were out at the weekend celebrating the "End of an Era" as their Manager, Trainer & Coach "Carmel Reid" retires from the team. Carmel has given so much of her time & commitment to the Mamma Mias over the years and her dedication and encouragement with this team has led them to have some amazing triumphs, nights out and friendships for life... Most of the ladies had never played football and have now gone on to further success with Lucan Sarsfields Junior B's. From all the "Mamma Mias" over the year THANK YOU.
