Team News
Senior Football Management Team
Dave Cullen and Ollie Collins have decided to step away from their roles as Senior Football manager and coach. Dave and Ollie led us to our first championship semi-final in ten years in 2021 and were very unlucky in 2022 not to progress to a championship Quarter final. Over the last two years Dave and Ollie introduced several young players to Senior football and leave us in a strong position to continue our progress. Our Director of football, David Herlihy, will implement a formal process in the next couple of weeks to find successors to Dave and Ollie. The club would like to sincerely thank Dave and Ollie for their dedication and hard work over the last 2 years.
Senior Hurling Management Team
Cathal Fenton has decided to step down from his position as Senior hurling manager. Cathal led us to our first Division 1 hurling title this year and we progressed to the Quarter Final of the Senior hurling championship. Our Directors of hurling Paul Stapleton and Vince O’Connor will launch a formal process in the coming weeks to identify Cathal’s successor. The league title this year was a huge positive. Thanks to Cathal and his team for your hard work and commitment.
Hurling Championship Update
This Sunday is a big hurling day for the club with our three junior teams all in semi-final action. These are all home fixtures as each team topped their respective qualifying group. The Jun A’s play the combined forces of Good Counsel Liffey Gaels on Pitch 1 at 11am. The Jun B’s play Faughs on AGP3 also at 11am. In the afternoon, our Jun C’s play Thomas Davis on Pitch 1 at 3pm. Victory not only ensures a place in the final but also promotion to a higher championship grade for next year. Please come out and show your support.
Camogie
The camogie committee is seeking suitable candidates to put their names forward to manage the Lucan Sarsfields Under 21A camogie team. This appointment is for the 2022 championship. Anyone expressing an interest in the role should email secretary.lucansarsfields.dublin@camogie.ie by Friday 7th October.
Go Ahead Junior 5 All County Football Semi-Final: Lucan 3-08 Clann Mhuire 1-11.
A battle where you couldn’t be sure of the winner until the final whistle. This Lucan team seem to have the right mix of youth and experience. The first half was evenly contested with both teams going in to the break with 1-04. The second half seen Lucan go ahead but Clann Mhuire stayed in the game through some needless frees. Overall a solid performance with a lot to work on and some serious selection headaches over the next two weeks before the final which will take place at the club at 3pm on Sunday 16th October.
Lucan Team: A. Norton, N.Smith, C. Hickey, D. Kelly, O. Collins, N.McKiernon, T. Mulqueen, R. Kelly, S. Kelly, P. Sloan, J. Doyle (1-0), S. Donohoe (0-1), G. Hamilton (0-2) G. Mortimer, T. Mulhall (2-04). Subs introduced M. Wallace (0-1) and F. Buckley.
U19A Lucan vs Cuala, 12th Lock, 2/10/2022
Our second championship game started slowly with the day looking like it would be a tough one, fortunately the Lucan back line exerted enough pressure to force the early Cuala chances wide of the mark. After the alarm call Lucan rallied and for the rest of the half our lads pressed on and were unlucky not to capitalise on some goal chances carved out by our forward unit. The first half finished 0-16 pts to 0-4. Our lads then started the second half with some lovely interplay, our forwards showed well and this combined with some accurate passing was a key element of our performance. A memorable and cheeky moment from Cathal Doody who after losing the sliotar in a tackle had a cheeky chip with the boot placing it in the lámh of Brendan Kavanagh to point. Cuala tried to rescue the game through with a press for some goals but our backs covered the treat and disrupted, moving the ball quickly to our forwards who punished by pointing. Sean Harkness eventually got the goal he deserved and Lucan pushed on to close out the game. Final Score 1-24 to 0-11.
U11 Camogie
The U11 camogie group played at home on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. This week’s opposition were St Jude’s. Both sets of girls played some great camogie, showing off all the skills they had been practicing over the last few weeks. Once again there was great support from the side-line for all girls and it was great to hear the girls complementing each other on good team work. As always our Lucan Sarsfield’s referees were superb, always explaining to the girls why they were blowing the whistle. Making it an enjoyable learning experience for all. For some of the girls the afternoon finished with October ice-creams.
