Proper nutrition advice can protect physical and mental health of our players. The physical and mental health of many of our young GAA players is being compromised by the mixed and often misleading messaging they are being exposed to in terms of body image and nutrition. This is the opening statement of an article on the GAA Website (www.gaa.ie/news/proper) that features an interview with Dr. Sharon Madigan, Head of Performance Nutrition with the Sport Ireland Institute. The newly formed Gaelic Games Sports Science Working Group, of which she is a member, has a goal to look at the long term health and wellbeing of our players. Nutrition will play a big part, and the hope is that senior Club and County players will help promote the message. Download the The Food pyramid.pdf and the The Eatwell Guide.pdf, featured in the article. |
PR-Óg – The Camogie Association piloted this new initiative aimed at supporting club and county PROs, last July. This new role is aimed at 15-21 year olds who have a specific interest in public relations and in particular social media and is now open for enrolment for the 2021 Programme. If you would like more information, or to enrol for this programme, please contact Ollie Mahon, Camogie Director |
Maintaining the Club – Have you a skill or trade, and a few hours to spare? The club has some essential maintenance works that can be carried out safely while the premises are closed. Many thanks to those that responded last week, but we still need more work done, it would be great to see a few new (masked) faces!! Please get in touch with any of the executive, or by email to pro.lucansarsfields.dublin@gaa.ie.

In these days when there is little sport available, don’t forget that TG4 will begin coverage, this Saturday 30 January, of the Australian Football League Women's (AFLW). There will be fourteen Irish players playing in this season's NAB AFL Women’s Competition. |
GAA/LGFA/Camogie Association Vetting, a reminder from out Childrens Officer, that all mentors and coaches that have players under the age of eighteen, must be Vetted. New rules from the associations, require that anyone who was vetted prior to 1 January 2019, must now reapply to be vetted. Looking ahead optimisically, when things get back to normal, the club sometimes have visiting teams that need overnight accommodation for their juvenile players, whether from overseas, or closer to home. Now might be a good time for members who are able to be hosts, to renew their vetting too. Check the club website for more information. |
Bereavements: Our condolences to Glen Maguire and family on the death of his Mother Noeleen; to Damian Murray and family on the deaths of both his Mother-in-law and Father-in-law Esther and Patrick Somerville. May they rest in peace. |
