Lucan Sarsfields GAA Club Notes
July 08, 2019
Senior footballers maintained their good form with a solid win vs St Maurs, and are very much in the chase for league honours as they sit 3rd in AFL1. Inters drew and are in touching distance of a play-off place. Jnr As unfortunately lost out to a strong Towers of Lusk team. Jnr Bs arrested their recent slide in form with a good away win, very much helped out by some Minors who togged out. Inter Ladies footballers got back to winning ways in the Cup. A great win for our U16 hurlers in the last league game vs Kilmacud Crokes, which topped a solid weekend for boys hurling with U14 and U15 also recording wins. Big hurling Championship week this week as JnrAs play Tuesday away to BSJ and Jnr Bs away on Thursday vs St. Peregrines , sandwiched in between on the Wednesday is a Senior hurling league game vs St Vincents away.
Well done to Daire Newcombe, Harry Ladd, Mark Lavin who played for the Dublin U20 footballers in a fine win against on Longford last Tuesday, and we wish them luck for the semi-final vs Wexford tomorrow night. Well done to Lauren Dawson © Phoebe Shannon Sinead Daly Millie Reid and Lilly Rooney who were part of the Dublin U16 Camogie team who had a good win vs Clare. Disappointment for Chris Crummey and the Dublin Senior hurlers as they lost out to Laois, and commiserations to Jake Rooney and Colm Walsh part of the Dublin minor footballer squad who lost the Leinster Final at the weekend also.
We have an Comedy Night coming up in the Club House – Saturday 27th July , tickets €10 and we will have a happy hour between 8 – 9pm where all pints will be €3. Come up and support YOUR club.
And speaking of support with something close to 140 teams we need a lot of support, and we go through plenty of medical supplies. Thankfully, one of our fantastic club partners, Finnstown Pharmacy, ensures our first aid kits are kept well stocked. Next time you have to visit a pharmacy you might consider calling to Finnstown and thank Karen for her support.
Car Park works – there will be works starting around the club from next week, we do apologies for any inconvenience that is caused but we would ask you bear with us as these improvements are carried out and as always you follow any instructions from any of our stewards when using the car parks at busy times. Patience is a virtue.

Adult Hurling Report
Just one game to report on this week and it was a rare loss for our Junior B’s, going down to Thomas Davis in the League – see match report below. This first loss of the campaign sees Lucan drop to third place on the league table, but they are just 1 point off the leaders and still very much in contention with 4 games to play. The coming week is an important one with a number of key games. Our Junior A’s play championship v Ballinteer St Johns on Tuesday night 7.30pm in Marley Park. A win could secure Lucan a place in the quarter-finals. On Wednesday, the Senior’s travel to St Vincents for a league encounter, with Lucan looking to build on the momentum of their recent win over Whitehall in the last round. Then on Thursday the Junior B’s travel to St Peregrines for their final Group stage Championship match. Lucan have already qualified for the knock-out stages but a win here would secure a home quarter-final. Please support our teams in these crucial fixtures. Commiserations to Dublin senior hurlers and to captain Chris Crummey, who exited the Championship with a defeat to Laois.
AHL8: Lucan Sarsfields 1-13 Thomas Davis 3-14.
A somewhat depleted Lucan side went to down to Thomas Davis in their first league defeat of the season. The early exchanges were tight with few scores but Thomas Davis had the edge and lead by 0-4 to 0-2 after 15 minutes. Then Davis’s broke through for a goal in the 21st minute to extend their lead. Lucan responded well and won some frees which Ciaran Keane converted and by half-time the deficit was reduced to 1 point, 1-6 to 0-8. All Lucan’s first half scores came from Keane, with 7 frees and 1 from play. The start of the second half was evenly contested before Lucan got a goal in the 40th minute with a well taken finish by Ciaran Keane, following good work from David Parsons and Sean Keegan. That looked like being the breakthrough that Lucan needed, but it was short lived as within 2 minutes Davis’s were in for their second goal at the other end. They built on that with some further points to stretch the lead and wrapped up the match with another goal in the 60th minute, to win comfortably. Ciaran Keane scored 1-12 of Lucans total with David Parsons adding the other.
