Lucan Sarsfields GAA Club Notes Sunday 25 November
November 25, 2018
Hard luck to our Minor B hurlers who lost out by the smallest of margins to Commercials in the County Final. A gritty performance but just didn’t convert chances at the right time. Our Minor A camogie team also lost out by the same margin 4-4 to 2-11 to Kilmacud Crokes. Well done however to the Minor A hurlers who won beat Castleknock to go top of the Division are in the driving seat to secure a league final spot.
The only show in town next weekend, our Minor footballers play in the County Final vs Castleknock, all roads lead to O’Toole Park again. Lets hope we can leave with the right result this time. Lots of support needed again.

Adult Hurling Report
Hard luck to Lucan's Minor B's who were very unfortunate to lose out to Commercials by a single point in the final of the Minor D Championship. The team played very well on the day but just didn't get the breaks when needed. Meanwhile the Minor A's moved to the top of Division 2 (South) after a good league win over Castleknock. Match reports below.
Minor 'D' Championship Final: Commercials 2-7 Lucan Sarsfields 1-9.
This was a very closely contested game between two evenly matched teams, played in difficult underfoot conditions in O'Toole Park. Lucan started well and got the opening score from Eoin Gormley. However Commercials soon responded and snatched a goal from a rebound after Lucan keeper Jake Mooney had made a good save. Lucan gradually got on top again and two points from Evin Dowling had the sides level again after 10 minutes. The exchanges were very even until the 20th minute, when Alex Hanley made a great run through the Commercials defence and finished to the net from a tight angle. This gave Lucan some breathing space and they held a 3 point advantage to half-time, 1-6 to 1-3. Scores were hard to come by in the early part of the second half and by the 45th minute Lucan had extended the lead to 4, 1-8 to 1-4, with the Lucan points again coming from Evin Dowling. Lucan were now on top and created a couple of good goal chances but failed to capitalise on them, which would ultimately prove costly. Commercials got back into the game when a high lobbying ball from about 40 meters out found its way into the Lucan net. An equalising point soon followed and the sides were level with 10 minutes to play. Commercials now had the greater momentum and pressed ahead with two points to open a gap into the final 5 minutes. Lucan's cause was further hampered when outstanding centre-back Cian Duffy was sent off after a second yellow card. Despite this setback Lucan pressed hard and were unfortunate not to finish a good goal chance late on. A point from Evin Dowling reduced the margin to the minimum, and Lucan were on the attack again with a chance to score when the ref blew the final whistle. It was a cruel defeat for a gallant Lucan team but it was neighbours Commercials who took the honours.
The Lucan management and players can be very proud of their efforts over a long season and there will be better days ahead for these committed young hurlers.

MHL Div 2: lucan Sarsfields 3-16 Castleknock 2-11.
Lucan Minor As played away in Somerton vs. Castleknock in the second last round of the league with Castleknock one point ahead on the league table. Castleknock played with a slight breeze and after an even fifteen minutes, Lucan were just a point ahead. Andy Carroll then set up Matt Dunne for the opening goal. Castleknock replied immediately with a score of their own. Lucan were four up approaching half time but a Castleknock goal following a poor clearance and an immediate point meant the game was level at the break. Although Castleknock scored first, Lucan got 1-4 without reply following two points each from Matt Dunne and Andy Carroll with Gavin Millea setting up Alan Murphy for Lucan's second goal. Castleknock then got a goal back but Andy Carroll was quickly set up for Lucan's third goal when Colm Behan ran hard and popped out the sliotar to the waiting full forward. Behan, Oisin O'Brien and Dunne again finished off the Lucan scoring and Castleknock had only one point in response, as Lucan ran out comfortable winners. Lucan, with a final game to play against Bray, are now top of the Div 2 South table, and will be hoping to set up a playoff against the leaders of Div 2 North. Best for Lucan on the day were Eoghan O'Connor & Gavin Millea in the backs and Matt Dunne, Alan Murphy and Andy Carroll in the forwards.
