Lucan Sarsfields Club Notes Monday 27th of August.

August 26, 2018

Senior Hurlers are back in action next week when Lucan host St Brigids in League. As part of Lucan’s preparations for that and their following weeks Championship game (v Setanta) they had a some challenge games this week. As many of you will have seen, Paul Crummy suffered a rare injury when his arm became impailed in an opposition players helmet. Maybe a timely reminder for all our hurlers to examine their helmets and ensure the face guard is intact! Thankfully Paul is already back in training.

Congratulations to the U16 Camogie Team securing Division 1 league title with a win over Kilmacud Crokes.

U12 Football hosted a visit from Monaleen GAA club. Two entertaining games were played on Sunday morning followed by lots of refreshments. A bit thank you to all who organised.

It was with regret that the members heard of the death of Paddy Foley, late of Esker, who played Football and Hurling with Lucan in the 1950’s. Although resident in England for many years, he was a regular visitor to the club. Rest in Peace Paddy.

All Ireland Ticket draws are on this week with Volunteer's on Wednesday from 9pm and General members one on Thursday night from 9.30pm.

Live music in the bar on Saturday night with “The Rambling Itch”, as with all “Eve of The All Ireland” nights it promises to be an lively and entertaining night. Indeed if the hurling is anything to go by, so too will be Sunday afternoon for the Football final itself.

Bingo is back on Wednesday 8:30pm where the jackpot is over €800 and attracting allot more players.

Last week there was no winner of the €1,000 lotto, so this week it climbs to €1,400. Tickets can be purchased online, at the club, in Carey’s Newsagents or Kenny’s Bar.

Lucan Sarsfields Juvenile Football Report

Juvenile Football Report

Many of the juvenile football teams are still on their Summer breaks but the U-13 and U-15 footballers returned to action this week.

Our 13A footballers travelled to Malahide Castle to take on St Sylvester’s on Tuesday evening last in the Division 1 League.

Lucan started well and raced into a 9 point lead despite hitting the cross bar twice, only to be pegged back to 3 at half-time by a dogged Syl’s side.

The boys in green started the 2nd half well but were guilty of missing a number of scoring chances, keeping the opposition in the game.

In the end Lucan finished strongly and won by 7 points on a score-line of 7-09 to 5-08.

Team:  Conor Greally; Sean Carolan, Sean Langton, Dan Kane; Ryan Clancy, Darragh O’Toole, Dara Walsh (1-0); Daragh Lyons (0-1), Cathal Kennedy (1-3, 3 frees), Adam Banim (0-2), Jamie Smith, Darragh Meehan (1-0); Alex Derrien (0-1), Cormac Coffey (2-1), Paddy Ryan (1-1).

Subs: Oisin O’Connor, Cillian Whelan (1-0), Liam Brennan.

The U13 B’s started the second half of the league on Tuesday night with a good win over Castleknock. Despite missing a few regulars the lads started very well and led by 2-3 to no score after 15 mins and looked to be on course to repeat the two victories achieved against Castleknock already this year. Niall Melvin got the 2 goals and Calum Conway was excellent at centre back during this period and centrally involved in preventing Castleknock getting in to the Lucan half. However they rallied towards the end of the half and scored 2-1 without reply to close the gap to 2 pts but Lucan went again before half time to extend the lead to 6 points.

The second half followed a similar pattern with Castleknock getting to within one point before Lucan rallied again with a free from Kevin Hegarty finding the net to stretch out the gap. However, Castleknock would not lie down and when they scored a goal from a penalty Lucan had a real battle on their hands. However late goals from Robert O’Connell from the U12’s and Dylan Hynes finally ended their resistance and Lucan ran out winners on a score line of 5-14 to 5-7.

Team: Lee Murphy, Josh Murphy, Sean Corry, Aidan Barry, Ryan Dunne (0-2) , Calum Conway, Darragh Kenna, Kevin Hegarty (1-5), Joshua Delaney (0-1), Kevin Gormley, Niall Melvin (2-0), Dylan Hynes (1-2), Ross Murray (0-2), Oran Smith (0-1), Killian Gormley, Robert O’Connell (1-1), Aaron Malone.

In the U-13 Division 10 league game, Lucan had a great win against Clontarf in a very tight game on a score line of 3-09 to 1-16.

The U-15 league also resumed. In Division 3, Lucan had a good win against St. Brigids on a score line of 3-11 to 2-09 while in Division 6, Lucan lost out to Clanna Gael-Fontenoy by 3-11 to 2-10.

Well done to all the teams competing at the weekend.
