Lucan Senior Hurlers are destined for Division 1 hurling for next year after a 3:13 to 0:11 win over Oliver Plunketts.

Lucan secured a quick return to top flight league action next season with a comprehensive win over Oliver Plunketts at the 12th Lock. The weather and pitch were as good as you get for November and there was good support for both teams. 

Lucan started the better and quickly became dominant with a series of good scores to lead 0-9 to 0-2 after 20 minutes. A goal quickly followed with a trademark finish from CJ Smith and Lucan looked well on their way. However, the scores dried up after that and Plunketts narrowed the gap to 1-10 to 0-5 at half time. 

Plunketts started the second half much better and narrowed the gap to 5 points as Lucan had a succession of wides and failed to score for 15 minutes. 

A point by Johnny McCaffrey stopped the rot and then a second goal kicked home by CJ Smith effectively settled the issue. Lucan got a third soon after when a long range free from Matt McCaffrey went straight to the net. It was a tempestuous second half and both teams were fortunate to finish with 15. 

Lucan won't be happy with their second half display but overall were much the better team and deserved the win and to be back in the top division where they belong. Ronan Smith in midfield and Matt McCaffrey at centre forward were the stand out performers on the day, as they have been all season.
