Healthy Clubs brings Irish Heart Foundation Mobile Unit to Lucan
September 08, 2017
On the first Saturday in September the Health & Wellbeing committee organised a visit to the club from the Mobile Unit of the Irish Heart Foundation. The purpose of this visit is to provide blood pressure checks as well as healthy heart advice to members of the community. Philip the driver arrived bright and early, and set up the unit beside the clubhouse.
Being the first morning for the Academy after the summer break, there were many of our young members milling around the club, as well as anxious parents whose children were attending for the first time. The H&W committee patrolled the all-weather pitch, advising the adults of the service available and encouraging them to avail of it.
Throughout the day there was a steady stream of people who attended the mobile unit. There was never more than a small queue, luckily the weather was good so everyone was happy to sit and chat while waiting their turn to meet one of the two very pleasant nurses Bernadette and Carmel who were in attendance.
When the Dublin Under 16 camogie team bus arrived for the team pick-up, some of the parents also availed of the service (though their blood pressure readings may have been a bit inaccurate due to the important Dublin / Wexford Leinster final clash they were heading off to !!!)
Feedback for this initiative was very positive from all who attended.
The Health & Wellbeing committee are grateful to the Club Executive for enabling us to facilitate this service, and also to Mike Wisdom who was on hand to help with setting up on the morning.
