Last week there was no winner of the €9,800 lotto where the numbers were 1, 14, 16 and 22. This weeks €10,200 lotto draw will be managed by Team Seamus Clandillon and is sponsored by O’Grady Hearing Care Services. Tickets can be purchased online, at the club, in Carey’s Newsagents or in Vesey Arms or Kenny’s Bar.

Sean Newcome has accepted the role of Director of Football where he will be supported by Fergal Gavin in the Juvenile section and by Mick Kilduff in the Adult section with additional support from David Moran GPO.

Senior Football had a narrow win over Cuala and now sit with 11 points in Division 1, a few more required to see them safe.

Ladies football made a huge comeback in their championship final against Cuala, but it was not to be in the end loosing 3:09 to 3:15. Thanks to all for the huge support.

Senior Hurlers saw off Naomh Barrog on Saturday night 2:20 to 0:11 (see match report below). Next up is an away trip to Whitehall 16/9 6pm.

Lucan Sarsfields Golf Society’s next outing will take place at Lisheen Springs Golf Club on Saturday 9^th September from 11.30am to 12.40pm. To request a tee time please text John Clancy at 086 0412953 as soon as possible but no later than 6pm on Sunday 3^rd September. New members are always very welcome.

Match Report - Senior Hurling

Lucan 2-20; Naomh Barrog 0-11.
Lucan senior hurlers secured two vital league points with a comprehensive 15 point win over Barrog in their Div 2 league clash at the 12th Lock on Saturday evening.

Playing against the fresh breeze in the first half Lucan found it hard to get to grips with the opponents and the sides were level six time before a late brace from  -Tommy Sommers and Paul Rigney gave the home lads a two point interval lead0-8;0-6. 

Powerful defensive display from half backs Chris Crummy, John McCaffery and Colm Keenan were vital while nearer goal Barry Aird was solid and goalie Kevin Roche somehow  managed to keep a goalbound shot out as the break approached. Paul Claffey and Phil Smith were also solid in that half.

Injuries to Matt McCafferty and CJ Smith gave opportunities to Ciaran Dowling and Evan Lombard and both gave very impressive scoring displays in the second half. Scorers for Lucan in the first half were Tommy Sommers 5pts, Rory Stapleton 0-1, Paul Crummy and Paul Rigney 0-1 each.

Lucan resumed with the aid of the breeze and quickly set about taking the play to Barrog. They were dealt a blow early in the half were Mick May was shown a straight red card , but it was Lucan who rose to the challenge of dealing  with Mick's dismissal and started to play great hurling for the remainder of the half adding on a sucession of scores to pull away.
Goals from sub Evan Lombard, who ended up with a tally of 1-1, and Paul Crummy put the issue beyond doubt but there was also major scoring contributions from Ciaran Dowling with five points, a monster effort from full back Barry Aird. Peter Kelly also got in on the scoring with a point and was unlucky not to get in for a goal only to be pulled down as he was about to shoot and Ronan Smith.

Barrog had no answer to Lucan stickwork, team work , workrate and general all round play. Next up is a league meeting with away to Whitehall CC in two weeks.

Match Report : Minor Hurling

St Vincents 2-14, Lucan 1-13
Lucan's Minor "A" Hurler's league ambitions were dashed last Monday night when they went down to a four point defeat to St Vincents in their final league match of the season. Lucan needed to win to keep the pressure on Vincents but on a wet and dark evening they were unable to secure the win they required.

Vincents dominated the early exchanges but were dealt a blow when  their full forward received a red card after just 5 minutes. However Lucan could not get to grips with the extra man advantage, finding their opponents more physical approach and direct running game hard to contain. The wet, drizzly conditions made ball handling difficult although it has to be said the home team coped better than the Lucan lads.  

Lucan did manage to open up a two point lead at the break, it could have been more but unfortunately a Lucan penalty taken by Emmett Allen just whizzed over the crossbar. Killian Boylan, Ben Coffey, Cian McHugh and Emmett Allen all registering scores for the Lucan lads. In defence, captain Eoghan Reynolds led by example and received great assistance from Eoghan Seery who unfortunately picked up a nasty facial injury, David Kavanagh and Gavin Millea.

The second half was dominated by a more physical home team who dealt better with the poor conditions.  An early goal wiped out Lucan's half time lead and further scores took the Vincent's lead out to four points mid way through the half. A fine piece of teamwork by Lucan saw a Killian Boylan goal bound shot brilliantly saved by the Vincents keeper when a goal looked certain. Lucan kept plugging away and brought the lead back to one point following scores by Ben and Emmet. However once again Vincents got in for a crucial goal and it took a flying save by goalie Cillian Murray to prevent a second giving them a six point lead entering the final minutes. Lucan's fighting spirit came to the fore again when Luke Walsh finished to the net following a good build up involving Ciaran Keane and Eoin Higgins. But Vincents had the final score to register a deserved victory.
Focus now shifts to championship with a first match v Ballyboden on Sept 10th, followed by games against Na Fianna and Cuala in the round robin stages.
