Match Reports from Hurling

Adult hurlers played 3 games this week with the seniors drawing in the league, while the Junior B's had a championship loss and a league win. Junior As unfortunately were unable to field for league game v Clontarf. Match reports below.

AHL2: Lucan Sarsfields 0-16 Raheny 0-13.
Lucan had to share the points at the end despite leading throughout as a late rally from Raheny got them level at the death. A depleted Lucan started brightly and got the first 5 scores but Raheny gradually got in to the game and Lucan lead by just 3 at half time, 0-9 to 0-6. Lucan started the second half well and had stretched the lead to 6 again with 15 to play. However Raheny finished stronger and a goal with 5 mins to play left just a point in it and they eventually got the final free chance to level it.  Matt McCaffrey dominated in the middle while brother Johnny lead a solid defence. Paul Crummey and Aidan Roche worked hard in the forwards while Gary Coleman took his chances well.
Lucan Team/Scorers: K Roche, M May, P Smith, N Gleeson, T Somers (0-5f), J McCaffrey, C Keenan, M McCaffrey (0-1), R Smith, A Roche (0-2), P Crummey (0-3), A O'Neill, G Coleman (0-4), P Rigney (0-1), D Brennan. Sub; P Kelly.

JEHC: Castleknock 3-13 Lucan Sarsfields 1-11.
Both teams qualified for the quarterfinals but  Castleknock claimed the home berth with this 8 point win over Lucan junior B's. Lucan started well with Killian Boylan getting an early goal and a couple of nice points. Castleknock fought back and got two goals to lead 2-6 to 1-4 at the break.  Lucan were better in the second half and had got the deficit back to just 1 point with 10minutes to play. However a few chances went a begging and Castleknock got on top again with another goal and finished comfortable winners.
Lucan team/scorers: E Gately, S Stapleton, A Flanagan, S Farrell, J Cavanagh, S O'Keeffe, R Ennis, S Newcombe 0-1, D Ryan, A Glover 0-1,  D Reidy 0-1, S Alamgir 0-2, K Boylan 1-3, M Quaid, K Masterson 0-3 (0-2f, 0-1s) Subs: B Graydon, D Quinn, E Byrne, C Downes, M Condon.

AHL8: Lucan Sarsfields 2-11 St Peregrines 1-9.
Lucan Junior B's started slowly allowing Peregrines to score 3 points before our first point . Peregrines continued to lead through  the first half despite our best efforts  with a half time score of 1-5 to 0-5. The breeze  across the pitch pulled several of our efforts  to the left and wide.

At half time there was a bit of straight  talking  and we took to the field for the second half intent on not coming off the field without  110% from every player. We started to get back into the game and played for each other. We used the ball better and we narrowed the gap to 2 points when Peregrines  were awarded a penalty.  Fair play to Eoghan Gateley who pulled off a tremendous  save to keep us in the game.

That save was followed  by a solo by Eoin Byrne  who turned the tide by scoring a goal to put us in front for the first time. Five minutes  later Mark Condon scored a second goal for Lucan. Aidan Glover got 3 nice points in the space of 5 mins. With a few minutes to go we were 5 points up having outscored Peregrines 2-6 to 0-4 in the second half. We held the line thanks to some ferocious  defending by our backs and came out winners 2-11 to 1-9.

Team/Scorers: Eoghan Gateley   Sean Stapleton   Alan Flanagan   Sujon Alamgir   Simon OKeeffe  (0-1)  Mark Quaid   Ger Twohig ( 0-1) Eoin Byrne  (1-0)  Keith Masterson  (0-4) Aidan Glover  (0-3) Darragh Quinn  (0-2) Mark Condon  (1-0)  Brian Mahon   Ciaran Byrne.
