Hurling Update
May 21, 2017
Good league wins for both Senior and Junior B hurlers this weekend - see match reports below. Junior A's play Bray Emmetts Monday evening at 7.30pm at 12th Lock.
AHL2: Lucan Sarsfields 0-15 Faughs 0-12.
Lucan seniors move to top of table and remain unbeaten in league with this win over rivals Faughs. It was a workmanlike performance from Lucan who were always the better team but didn't take enough chances to make the margin more comfortable. Lucan started well and lead 0-11 to 0-7 at half time, with Kevin O'Reilly scoring freely from play and frees. The lead was stretched to 7 points early in the second half but then the scores dried up for Reilly and for Lucan and Faughs narrowed the gap but never really threatened for the goal they needed. A late free from Tommy Somers settled Lucan and they held on to win by 3. John Bellew and Matt McCaffrey were prominent in a solid defence, Ronan Smith worked hard at midfield while O'Reilly's first half display shone brightest in the forwards.

AHL8: Lucan Sarsfields 0-18 Realt Dearg 2-10.
Lucan Junior B's showed great fighting spirit to snatch victory against a good Realt Dearg team. Lucan, playing with a strong breeze, were sluggish enough in the first half and needed a couple of good scores from Mark Quaid and a great long range score from Brian Fagan to stay in touch. Both sides lost a player as the ref showed two reds after a bit of a melee, though Lucan's Ger Twohig will plead self-defence! Realt Dearg were ahead 0-8 to 0-5 at half time and looked to be in command with wind advantage to come in the second half. However Lucan started the second half well and had narrowed the gap to 1 when Realt Dearg struck for a goal from a close in free. Lucan responded again but a second Realt Dearg goal soon followed. Lucan dug deep again and some inspirational points from Aidan Glover and accurate free taking from Keith Masterson soon had Lucan on level terms. It was tit for tat as the game approached the hour but a couple of late frees from Masterson saw Lucan home. Alan Flanagan and Simon O'Keeffe were very effective in defence for Lucan while Aidan Glover was outstanding in the forwards, ably supported by Masterson, Killian Boylan and Mark Quaid.
