Hurling Reports from the Weekend
May 14, 2017
Both minor teams in league action this weekend and both tasted defeat. Minor A's lost their unbeaten league run going down by 5 pts to Na Fianna and the Minor B's were well beaten by St Pats. See match reports below.
Highlight of the weekend was Dublin minors leinster semi-final win over Wexford. Dublin now face Kilkenny in the Leinster final. Well done to all the Lucan contingent involved, players Luke Walsh, Ben Coffey, Emmet Allen, panellists Rob Ward, Andy Carroll and Herkus Sviglinskas, team manager Fintan Clandillon, mentor Cronan Dooley, and backroom team members Brian Fagan, Seamas O'Cathasaigh and Tommy Brennan.

MHL Div 1: Na Fianna 2-14 Lucan Sarsfields 0-15.
Na Fianna deservedly took the points and put themselves back in contention for league honours, as Lucan dropped their first points of the campaign. Lucan started well enough and the opening exchanges were even until Na Fianna broke through for a goal which was the decisive moment in the first half. Cillian Murray had made a good save but the Na Fianna forwards were quicker to react to the rebound and secured the goal. The accuracy of Cian McHugh from frees kept Lucan in touch and only the goal separated the teams at half time, 1-9 to 0-9. The opening exchanges of the second half were even and it took 10 minutes for the first score of the half, as Lucan brought the deficit back to 2. However it was Na Fianna who pushed on from there and began to take control. A second goal came following some good points as they stretched to an eight point lead. Lucan rallied with a few late points but it was too little too late as Na Fianna held on comfortably. It was a day when both defences were on top and scores from play were scarce enough on both sides. Rob Ward and Gavin Millea did well at the back for Lucan, while upfront Cian McHugh and Andy Carroll were the main threat.
Lucan team: C Murray, I Crowley, E Reynolds, L Walsh (0-1), G Millea, R Ward, E Higgins, A McNulty, H Sviglinskas (0-1f), C McHugh (0-9 (0-8f)), E Seery, A Murphy, C Keane, A Carroll (0-2), O O'Brien (0-2). Subs used: E Connolly, D Kavanagh, M Dunne, C Behan.
MHL Div 4: St Pats 5-11 Lucan 2-5.
In a very tight first half, Lucan were 3 points down early on before an Eoin Gormley goal followed by a point from Michael Doyle gave them a lead. It was short lived however as St Pats responded well and took control again with a couple of scores. Lucan fought back again and Thomas Heffernan did well to scrape in a goal. Cathal Kavanagh, having his best game in a Lucan shirt with outstanding work rate, scored a great point. However, Lucan suddenly fell apart when St Pats scored 2 soft goals to take the lead again. Michael Doyle popped one over just before half-time to give a half time score of 2-4 to 2-6 in favour of Pats.
The second half was one way traffic though as Pats took over and Lucan were second to every ball. Pats added three goals and tipped over a few points as well. Lucan were unable to respond and only managed one second half point from Michael Doyle. Alex Hanley and Jyothon Joseph both had very good performances for Lucan, both Pats ran out comfortable winners in the end.
