wo Championship wins from 3 in adult hurling this weekend, but our Seniors will know they should have made it a hat-trick again, as they lost out to Naomh Fionnbarra by a point after a disappointing performance. Our Junior A's and Junior B's both came out on the right side of 1 point games, against St Vincent's and St Brigids respectively. Match reports below.
SHC: Naomh Fionnbarra 0-10 Lucan Sarsfields 0-9.
This was a poor match and a disappointing performance from Lucan seniors. Lucan never looked like the team that had comprehensively beaten St Brigids in the opening round just 8 days previously. Naomh Fionnbarra dominated the first half and should have been further ahead than their 0-5 to 0-3 lead at half time. Lucan did battle briefly early in the second half and got ahead at one stage, but Naomh Fionnbarra responded to open a 3 point gap again. Lucan fought back to level in the dying minutes, but Fionnbarra converted a late free chance and held on for victory. This is a game Lucan will want to forget quickly and not many can look back with pride on their individual performances. However we remain very much in the Championship and face Ballinteer in the final group game needing a win to secure a quarter final place.
Lucan team: K Roche, B Aird, J Bellew, P Claffey, M McCaffrey, J McCaffrey, S McClelland, C Dowling (0-2), C Crummey (0-1), J Byrne, A Phelan, K Fitzgerald, K O'Reilly (0-5 (0-4f)), P Rigney, P Crummey. Subs: A Roche, M May (0-1).
JAHC: St Vincent's 0-15 Lucan Sarsfields 0-16.
Lucan Junior A's were not at their best but still managed to claim the points and record a second win in the Championship. A late point from Joey Byrne helped Lucan claim the victory after a difficult hour. It was tight all through and Lucan lead by a point at half time. Vincent's started the second half well and opened up a 3 point lead but Lucan gradually clawed them back and Byrne's late strike was decisive. Lucan's defence was solid throughout but we struggled to find fluency from midfield up against a Vincent's team that crowded the middle on a tight pitch. Nevertheless a win was secured and now two wins from two in Championship to date.
Lucan team: Dan ONeill, Anto Lee, Bren McGarry, Aidan Sheehan, Niall Gleeson, Robbie Lambert, Tadgh Clandillon, Joey Byrne (0-1), Taidgh Beahan (0-2),Tommy Somers (0-6 (0-4f), Daragh Brennan (0-1), Colm Keenan (0-1), Gary Coleman (0-1), Pa Brennan (0-2), Rory Stapleton (0-1).
JEHC: Lucan Sarsfields 1-14, St Brigids 2-10.
Lucan Junior B's had a dramatic win over Brigids in this second round Championship game. This game had everything, including a black card (rare in hurling!) and a sending off. Lucan started well and were 9 to 5 ahead as half time approached when goalkeeper William Swaine got a dubious red card (after a black!). Lucan had to regroup quickly playing with 14 for the second half. The extra man told as Brigids got on top and two quick goals had them 5 ahead and set for victory. But Lucan dug deep and clawed their way back with great spirit and work rate, and a Keith Masterson goal goal direct from a free, got them level. Lucan got the decisive score with another Masterson free and held on for a great win. Brian Fagan was excellent in a defence that was very solid throughout, while Darragh Reidy, Killian Boylan and Keith Masterson from placed balls provided the scoring threat upfront.
Lucan team: William Swaine, Paul Murtagh, Alan Flanagan, Stevie Farrell, Simon O'Keeffe, Brian Fagan, Ger Twohig, Brian Grayden, Darragh Ryan, Aidan Glover, Darragh Reidy (0-3), Keith Masterson (1-7 (1-6f, 0-1 65)), Killian Boylan (0-3), Mark Quaid (0-1), Gavin Butler. Subs: Eoghan Gately, James Cavanagh, Sujon Alamgir, Mark Condon.

LastManStanding Competition (based on Premier League): We got to Week 9 of our LastManStanding Competition last week-end, with just 11 of our original candidates still in the running. 5 bit the dust on Crystal Palace, 2 on Southampton, 1 each on Stoke City and Manchester United. So John Curran with Bournemouth and Darragh Hunt with Liverpool have emerged from Week 9 as our LastMenStanding. John and Darragh have agreed to share the €500 prize money, so the competition is now officially over. Congratulations to John and Darragh who forecast a winning team 9 weeks in a row. For the record, they both used Chelsea, Spurs, Man City, Arsenal and Everton. Darragh also used Liverpool, Southampton, Stoke and Swansea, while John used Manchester United, Leicester, West Ham and Bournemouth. Many thanks to everyone who supported this fund-raiser for the Club’s Senior Hurling team. If you missed out on the fun this time, please note that we may well run another LastManStanding competition at the start of next season.
