The spirit of Community was so infectious. I would like to thank Parents,Coaches Mentors and Spectators for all the preparation and positive support given to our players. Feile is not about winning or loosing its about taking part !! We should all be proud to be part of this great GAA Community in Lucan . I am honoured to represent you all as Chairman. Our three adult hurling teams all recorded wins in opening round of championships this weekend. The seniors set the tone with s comprehensive win over St Brigids in Parnell Park on Thursday night and then the Junior A's and Junior B's followed up with wins over Faughs and St Joseph's OCB respectively- see match reports below. All three are in action in second round games next weekend, Seniors v Nh Fionnbarra at 7pm Friday in Parnell Park, Junior A's away to St Vincent's at 6pm Saturday and Junior B's home to Brigids 3pm Sunday.
SHC: Lucan Sarsfields 0-21 St Brigids 0-7.
Lucan had a comfortable win over Brigids in this first round of the Senior championship. Lucan started well and dominated throughout. They lead 0-11 to 0-4 at halftime and the pattern continued in the second half. It was a comprehensive team performance against a disappointing Brigids side. Seanie McClelland was outstanding in a dominant half-back line. The midfield pairing of Ciaran Dowling and Chris Crummey were on top throughout and Kevin O'Reilly lead the scoring in attack.
Lucan Team: K Roche, B Aird, J Bellew, P Claffey, M McCaffrey, J McCaffrey, S McClelland (0-2), C Crummey, C Dowling (0-3), J Byrne, A Phelan (0-2), K Fitzgerald (0-1), K O'Reilly (0-12 (0-8f)), P Rigney (0-1), P Crummey. Subs used CJ Smith, R Smith.
JHC: Lucan Sarsfields 4-16 Faughs 0-8.
Lucan Junior A's got their championship campaign off to a great start with a good performance and comprehensive win over Faughs. An experienced Lucan team were on top throughout with a dominant halfback line and midfield providing a great platform for the forwards. A goal from Rory Stapleton helped Lucan to a 1-9 to 0-4 lead at half time and they pulled away in the second half with further goals from the lively Mick May, Cathal O'Maolmhána, and Alan Whyte. Bren McGarry and Colm Keenan were prominent in a defence that was seldom troubled, Tadhg Behan and Joe Byrne worked hard in midfield while May, Stapleton and O'Maolmhána were the pick of the forwards.
Lucan team: D O'Neill, A Lee, B McGarry, A Sheahan, C Keenan (0-1f), N Gleeson, T Clandillon, J Byrne, T Behan (0-1), T Somers (0-5,(0-3f)), M May (1-3), D Brennan, C O'Maolmhána (1-1), P Brennan (0-2), R Stapleton (1-3). Subs used: A Whyte (1-0), D Reynolds, R Twomey.
JEHC: Lucan 3-12 St Joseph's OCB 4-5.
The Junior B's completed the hat-trick of wins with a 4 point margin over St Joseph's OCB. Lucan were on top early on but conceded a couple of goals and the halftime score of 2-9 to 3-3 was closer than it should have been. The second half was more competitive but a great goal from Daragh Reidy, his second of the match, gave Lucan enough breathing space to hold out for a well deserved win. Ian Fitzgerald was excellent at centre back, Sujon Alamgir and Paul Murtagh also showed well in defence. The midfield pairing of Joe McCarthy and Darragh Ryan worked well and Darragh Reidy, Cillian Boylan and Keith Masterson showed well upfront.
Lucan team: A Glover, P Murtagh, A Flanagan, S Farrell, S Alamgir, I Fitzgerald, S O'Keeffee (0-1), J McCarthy, D Ryan (0-1), C Boylan (1-3), D Reidy (2-2), K Masterson (0-4 (0-2f)), C Downes, B Mahon (0-1), M Quaid. Subs used: G Butler, J Cavanagh.
