Ladies Football were in Cup action on Wednesday evening away to St Peregrines, a stop start game with about 70 frees that ended in a draw. Their next Cup outing is at home to Ballinteer on Wednesday 26/4 19:30. The juniors are away to Clanna Gael at the same time.
Senior Camogie had a great Leinster League quarter final win over St Martins from Kilkenny. Their semi final was scheduled for the 22/4 14:00 away to Rathnure but we don't have a result yet.
Last weekend Lucan Sarsfields played host to Division 1 of Dublin Camogie Féile. Success is an understatement, as congratulatory messages came from several clubs (those that lost!), testament to the work of coordinator Eoghan O’Shea and the whole team. If we were on Tripadvisor we would have a 5 star rating for logistics and hospitality. On the field the B team were in Naomh Olaf but unfortunately failed to progress, while the A’s, from the comfort of home, set themselves up for a Sunday final against Ballyboden which the won with a 10-point margin. Congratulations to all involved and best of luck preparations for nationals.

MHL1: Lucan Sarsfields 1-14 Kilmacud Crokes 2-8.
Our Minor A's continued their unbeaten run in the league with a win over Crokes. It wasn't Lucan's best performance but they managed to eek out a win despite being 5 down at half time and having a player sent off. The best performers were in defence where Eddie Connolly, Rob Ward and Eoghan Reynolds showed particularly well. Herkus Sviglinskas put in a good hour midfield. While Eoghan Seery and Andy Carroll showed best in attack. Lucan: C Murray; D Kavanagh, E Reynolds, E Connolly; G Millea, L Walsh (0-1), R Ward (0-2); H Sviglinskas (0-3), A McNulty; E Allen (0-4), B Coffey (1-2), E Seery; A Murphy, A Carroll (0-2), O O'Brien; Subs used: E O'Connor, C McHugh, C Keane, C Boylan.
MHL4: Lucan Sarsfields 2-4 v Cuala 8-13
A poor start again saw Lucan well down after 10 mins into this match. It was 15 mins before we got a score, with a goal by Eoin Gormley. The back line worked hard but they failed to contain the Cuala forwards. Alex Hanley and Cillian Hogan put in a great performance and worked hard for every ball. The second half saw a better performance with the introduction of Jyothn Joseph and this lifted the team. Nathan Brown came on after 5 mins in the second half and was putting in a stellar shift, but fell awkwardly and injured his neck and had to be taken away by ambulance. A big thank you to all the parents who helped Nathan and we wish him a speedy recovery.
The Senior hurlers warmed up for their championship campaign with a 5 point win over Dublin minors. Lucan started slowly and were 5 down at half time. However they showed a bit more urgency in the second half and were comfortable winners on a The final score was 2-13 to 0-14.
Senior's play St Brigids in championship Thursday night at 8.15pm in Parnell Park. Please support.

Champo Football back on the menu! Only a couple of seasons back Lucan & Portobello were bitter rivals, so we travelled to Rathmines with confidence, edged with wariness. They were obviously very relaxed, as we were there 15mins before they arrived to open the gate. No facilities, & it seemed as though every ball that passed the end line was lost. Retrieval from housing estate was difficult, from Cathal Brugha Barracks harder again.
Lucan were out of the traps at speed, & GCarabini was goalbound along the end line, when a previously unnoticed clothes line sat him on the seat of his pants. JDoyle did, what JD does.....3 frees, 2 from play & a 45. Should I mention the missed free? No. Probably not, but what about the MMoran one? No won't mention that either, although all the subs felt it worthy of mention. NMcKiernan was finding a lot of space, & a great ciotog score on the run was the pick of 3 first half scores. Portobello were very much in this game, & had they made better use of their opportunities they'd have been, at least, on level terms at the end of the first quarter, but it was Lucan that built on their 2pt advantage. A short kick out went astray, for TBradley to point, and a super break from defence saw 0-8 v 0-3 gap at the turn.
Throughout the match Lucan carried the ball out of defence with some brilliant passing exchanges. ANorton, SKeher, AKirwan combined with the half backs to carry the ball into enemy territory. We were not so clinical once we crossed their 65m line. AMcCormack & SCasey set up a strong line that brokered no passage. On the one occasion they did get in behind us, a super leap by NCunningham tipped a goal bound shot over the bar. GHamilton found his range, & saw a great effort skim the top of the crossbar. PSloan felt obliged to compete with Niall, with a ciotog score of his own. Over his shoulder to boot! The youthful pairing, of DHerlihy & MMoran rolled back the years in a very competitive midfield. Portobello found their purple patch, & for 10mins started to believe they might make a match of it, reducing the deficit to 5pts. Lucan sent in the cavalry. Perhaps the heavy artillery would be a more accurate analogy? GFay, RDownes, CTorsney & FMcGrath all brought fresh legs. AO'Neill brought that "je n'ai sais quoi" quality. 3 balls came Andy's way. None of them quite worked out, but the 4th saw him, ball in hand on the edge of the square. Facing the wrong way, with a throng of defenders clambering for a piece of that ball. The ball spilled from his grasp, & the whole place went quiet. What would he do? Indeed, what would he do?? Cheeky as you like he swung the leg to drop kick a pass out to a fellow forward on the 13m line. Ever the team player!! Missed the ball completely but caught it with his heel on the way back. GMcAndrew reached for the green flag. He might as well have kept it in hand, as Mr O'Neill tippy toed round the back for another, more conventional goal. Portobello's champo dreams sunk by back heel.
