Bit o' football. Bit o' bog snorkelling. No day for fancy footwork, & one run through the machine won't be enough to clean jerseys this week! Lucan started in a hurry. Tim popped a point from the throw in, and then Gav, after holding up the ball on the 40, sent a perfect pass over the defence to a lurking Andy. The onion bag took an early rattling. Cian added neat score, Rory burst thru for another, & Hammy added a free. 1-4 v 0-0 after 17m. Where's the cruise control?? Thing about cruising is that you still have to steer. A lot of chances went abegging, & Gaels started to get into the game, & onto the scoreboard. 0-2, helped to build their confidence, but Lucan had final say when Gav eluded his man, & popped a late score.
Gaels started with a point from the throw in, as we had started the 1st half, & then followed in a similar vein, when Andy promoted himself to free taker, lost his balance, slipped over, but still managed to swing the leg. All of which completely bamboozled their keeper & ball ended up in the net!! 11pts clear Lucan were in full control. Gaels were stung by Andy's sumptuous finish, & responded with 1-2 over the next 10mins. Gav lifted the siege with a superb point. Shay broke superbly up the field, but it is suspected that he carried it beyond his comfort range, lost blood flow to the head, & thought he was back in the Wednesday night gym. Unfortunately he mistook an unsuspecting Gaels player for a punch bag. Ref saw fit to recommend early showers for Shay & the punchbag. This distraction ran down the clock, & although late points, reduced the deficit, it was not enough to deny Lucan a 3rd win.

Did this match have everything? Perhaps not, but it was never dull. The lead changes hands 9 times. In a nutshell, Lucan would kick a couple of points, & then Towers would break forward & grab a goal. And the lead. Lucan would kick points to retake the lead, only for Towers to raise another green flag. It was end to end. Although mostly at their end. Lucan opened brightly with 2pts in 2mins from Martin & Ciaran, followed by 3 wides. On 5mins Towers finally mounted an attack, & used the overlap to leave Conor no chance. Rob slotted 2 frees & it was level at half time. 0-4 v 1-1.
Nathan ranged forward from the restart & added a good point, before following up on a high ball that seemed to go under the bar, but ref deemed it a point! It was back & forth throughout the half, but with time ticking away Towers had a 2pt advantage, & match seemed to be slipping away. Darren carried a great ball into the heart of the Towers defence and scored a super point. Nathan repeated the dose. Level pegging, with clock nearing the midnight hour. A great passing movement up the left ended with a well taken Colin point. Our noses in front. Still ref felt that Towers deserved one last attempt on goal, & they would have had it, only Conor's hand became entangled in the jersey of their player headed for goal. The simple free that would have snatched a draw was wasted & Lucan headed for the gap with an unlikely win.
A win. A big spread of scorers. A very decent score line. Beat Towers on their patch. What more could one ask for? Well.....I'm not do sure about this new, generous Anto. I preferred the old "No goals" Anto!! And as for some of the wides?? Jaysus sure ''twas brutal. Great win fellas. Real cojones on show there today.
Hurling Leagues
AHL2 Lucan Sarsfields 0-20 Castleknock 2-14. Lucan were 5 behind at half time, after conceding 2 goals playing against the breeze in the first half. Lucan improved in the second half and had bridged the gap after 20 minutes. It was tit for tat for the last 10. A controversial late free for Castleknock followed by a very prompt final whistle as Lucan attacked, denied Lucan a win at the end. M McCaffrey in midfield put in a good hour while K O'Reilly and A Roche were most threatening in attack. Great to see Peter Kelly back in the Lucan team, also Seanie McClelland who made a big impact when introduced for the second half. Lucan Scorers Kevin O'Reilly 0-12 (0-9f, 65); M McCaffrey 0-4; A. Roche 0-2; S. McClelland 0-2.
AHL4 St Maurs 2-11 Lucan Sarsfields 2-9
Our second team lost out by 2 points away to St Maurs, despite goals came from Cathal O'Maolmhána and Brian Fagan and excellent performances from Rob Twomey and Rob Lambert. Lucan played the final quarter with 14 men after a harsh red card in the second half, and couldn't close the gap at the end.
AHL8 Lucan Sarsfields 3-5 Counsel Gaels 0-1. The Junior Bs recorded a comfortable win over Counsel Gaels in difficult conditions in Adamatown. First half goals from Brían Mahon and Eoin Byrne had Lucan in control and another from Sujon Alamgir in the second half settled the contest. Jack O'Toole in defence and Adam Finnerty in midfield were prominent throughout and were ably supported by "young" veterans Stevie Farrell, Joe McCarthy and Ger Twohig.
