Lucan Sarsfields Club Notes Monday 27th February

February 26, 2017

Liam Mulhall is our new Juvenile Chairman. Liam has been associated with the club all his life and indeed has genetic connections with the club. Liam now has a key role in overseeing the implementation of the club strategy throughout the juvenile section. In addition, Paul Stapleton has agreed to take on the role of PRO for  Adult hurling in the club. Paul will be the point of contact for all  matters relating  to fixtures, results, match reports etc. and he will liaise with the club's PRO to have these published  in the club notes, website, social media platforms. By now you will see many of the new roles being populated as part of the strategy, some more still need to be filled including Director Of Football, any expressions of interest - make yourself known.

On a weekend more noted for bad weather, closed pitches and games that need to be rescheduled our Senior Football played their second Boland Cup fixture on Sunday and overcame Plunketts 5:08 to 1:16.

Senior hurlers played a hard fought draw with St Anne's, Rathnure in Wexford on Saturday in the opening round of the Leinster League. Lucan started well, and built up a nice lead with the aid of a strong wind and a well taken goal from A Roche. However Rathnure got two successive goals to reduce the deficit to 4 at half time. A third goal followed early in the second half and Rathnure were soon level and set fair for victory with the wind behind them. However Lucan fought hard and matched them to the end and the game finished level, Rathnure 3-9 Lucan 1-15. The McCaffrey brothers lead the way for Lucan with other notable performances from B Aird, J Bellew, A Roche and K O'Reilly. Lucan scorers K O'Reilly 0-8 (0-4f), A Roche 1-2, J Bellew 0-2, R Stapleton, J McCaffrey, C Keenan 0-1 each.

The Junior A hurlers started their season away to Na Fianna in the Corn Fogarty and lost out on a score line of 2-13 to 0-9. The team fought well, particularly against the wind in the second half, but lacked match sharpness. There were good performances from P Smith, R Lambert and R Twomey.
