Match Reports

Lucan very impressive against Kildare champions

 Senior camogie

Lucan 6-18 Johnstownbridge 0-10

Lucan senior camogie put in a scintillating show against Kildare senior champions Johnstownbridge on Tuesday 27th June 2016.

It was a beautiful occasion.

The surroundings, balmy evening and the beauty of the play were wonderful. It was beautiful in its impracticality. Sport at its best means something when it means nothing. Monday night served no pragmatic purpose; we were engaged purely for the exhilaration of the activity.

Who cares that the score was lopsided. The real work is being done by these players elsewhere; the necessities are being addressed.

Anyway, the differential in pure hurling skill and command of the basics was decisively reflected on the scoreboard.

On ten minutes, keeper Joelenne Hoary mopped up a loose ball, pinged it to Laura Morgan at right-half. Swifty onwards to Aoife McKearney. Great hands and thenceforth to Grainne Eley on the burst out from the corner. Corkscrew turn and burned her on the inside. Slashed it over from 25 metres. Simple stuff. Score of the night. Typical of the Lucan play all evening. No un-needed touches. From hurlers who work at it.

The Lucan scorers below all played well. Particularly Laura Murtagh who added a whole lot more than the scores. Nice to see her scoring too. Ditto Sam Fitz.

The full-back line of Avril Quinn and the O’Toole twins were always in control and played well under pressure in the second half.

Half-backs Kate Britton and Jenny O’Halloran are great stick women. Very clever.

Lucan will play the final of the Dublin Cup against Ballyboden next Tuesday 5th July in Adamstown.

Lucan scorers : Orlaith Murphy 3-0, Grainne Eley 2-2, Laura Murtagh 0-4, Orla Sadlier 1-1, Charlotte Rooney 0-3, Aoife McKearney 0-3, Annemarie Courtney 0-1, Laura O’Mahony 0-1, Rhiannon Withero 0-1, Sam Fitzgerald 0-1, Nicole Fitzgibbon 0-1.

Lucan : Joelenne Hoary, Deirdre O’Toole, Avril Quinn, Ashling O’Toole, Laura Morgan, Jenny O’Halloran, Kate Britton, Annemarie Courtney, Sam Fitzgerald, Orla Sadlier, Aoife McKearney, Laura Murtagh, Charlotte Rooney, Orlaith Murphy, Meabh Dowler, Grainne Eley, Rhiannon Withero, Abby Lawlor, Sinead O’Toole, Nicole Fitzgibbon, Laura O’Mahony.
