Paul's Reports from the various hurling games over the weekend.

A disappointing week on the adult hurling front with 4 losses and a draw from 5 games. The usual summer exodus left all teams struggling for players and fielding somewhat under strength. Nevertheless some of the players filling in acquitted themselves well and will push for regular positions. Performance of the week was Junior A's hard fought draw in the Championship away to Erins Isle. Unfortunately this was marred by a nasty injury for Eoghan O'Conghaile and we wish him well on his recovery. Match details below.

Good luck to Dublin minor hurlers in Leinster final next Sunday, and especially to the large Lucan contingent involved on and off the field.

AHL2: Lucan Sarsfields 0-12, OP/ER 1-11.
Lucan seniors lost two valuable league points to promotion rivals Oliver Plunketts. A depleted Lucan team were second best in the first half and Plunketts were well worth their half time lead of 1-8 to 0-4. Lucan's first half scores all came from David Quinn who was unfortunate to have to depart injured after just 25 mins. Lucan started brighter in the second half and narrowed the gap with two frees from Ciarán Dowling. With 15mins to go Plunketts still lead by 6 and looked set for a comfortable win. However Lucan left their best hurling to the end and dominated the closing exchanges and could easily have snatched an unlikely win. The Plunketts goalkeeper was the hero though as he saved 2 penalties and a couple of other good goal chances to keep Lucan at bay and Plunketts held on to win by two.
Lucan Team/Scorers:  K Roche, P Claffey (0-1), B Aird, T Clandillon, M May, M McCaffrey, N Gleeson, C Dowling (0-6, 0-5f), P Smith, R Stapleton, A Phelan, A Roche, A Lee, D Quinn (0-4, 0-2f), CJ Smith (0-1). Sub; E Kenny.

JAHC: Erins Isle 0-19 Lucan Sarsfields 0-19.
This was a very even contest with little to separate the teams throughout. Isle's started the better and lead for most of the first half but Lucan stayed in touch through Tommy Somers frees. Isles lead 0-11 to 0-10 at half time and stretched that to a 4 point lead midway through the second half. However Lucan fought back and eventually levelled through a Somers free. Another free had Lucan 1 up well into added time but Isles got the final chance and levelled for a deserved draw. Bren McGarry, Rob Ward and Tadhg Clandillon were prominent in a solid Lucan defence while upfront Tommy Somers lead the way with his accuracy from placed balls. Eoghan O'Conghaile was lively too and was making good inroads before suffering a dislocated shoulder.
Lucan team/scorers: D Quinn (0-1f), A Lee, B McGarry, R Ward, C Keenan, N Gleeson, T Clandillon, J Byrne 0-1, R Lambert 0-2, T Somers 0-12 (0-11f), P Brennan, D Brennan, C O'Maolmhana 0-1, A ONeill 0-1,  E O'Conghaile 0-1. Subs used: E Kenny, T Beahan, I Fitzgerald.

AHL4: Lucan Sarsfields 0-11 Fingallians 2-22.
Lucan Junior A's failed to find their championship form in this league encounter and were well beaten by Fingallians. Lucan fielded without many regulars and struggled throughout.

JEHC: Lucan Sarsfields 1-9 St Pats (D) 1-16.
Lucan Junior B's suffered their first defeat in the championship when losing comprehensively to a good St Pats team. Lucan were chasing the game throughout and only for very solid goalkeeping by Eoghan Gately the score line could have been worse. Lucan now play Castleknock in final group game and need a win to secure a home quarter final.
Lucan Team/Scorers:   E Gately, S Stapleton, A Flanagan, S Farrell, S O'Keeffe, B Fagan (0-1), S Alamgir, G Twohig, S Newcombe, K Masterson (0-7, 0-6f) D Reidy, A Glover (1-1), M Condon, B Mahon, M Quaid. Subs used: J Cavanagh, C Downes, P Murtagh, G Butler.

AHL8: Sylvesters 4-14 Lucan Sarsfields 1-18.
Lucan Junior B's started well with Keith Masterson,  Mark Quaid and Cillian Murray putting us ahead 6 points to 3 after 15 minutes.  A goal against the run of play kept Sylvesters  in the game. Lucan  led at half time 0-13 to 1-5. Sylvesters played with wind advantage in the second half and their  keeper took advantage of that and the short pitch with puck outs landing in front of their full forward line. They scored 2-1 in the first 10 minutes to draw level with Lucan. They rest of the second half was tit for tat with the game level on several occasions. Mark Quaid  unlucky to hit the crossbar on one occasion. Other goal  chances were miraculously defended. In the dying minutes of the game Sylvesters  scored a goal and a point  to see them finish in front.
